Almond, Olivia Johanna 'Liv'
From the arms of her loving parents into the presence of her Lord, we mourn the passing of Olivia ‘Liv’ Johanna Almond on Thursday, February 15, 2024 in Collingwood at the age of 21.

A remarkable young lady, Olivia moved through life with a most joyful and brave attitude. She shared her life and her home with a number of her caregivers and all of those who supported her in her journey at school. Liv’s family has deep gratitude and admiration for them all and for the remarkable tenderness, fun and love that Liv was surrounded with.
Born in Collingwood on March 27, 2002, Olivia is survived by her adoring parents Vernon and Shirley (nee Brak) Almond, and by her siblings; John (Rhonda), Jeff (Stacey), Lisa Haines (Bill), and Jamie (Deanna) and their families.
Liv will be sorely missed by her many aunts, uncles, cousins and by many dear friends, particularly her ‘BFF’ Brogan Lackey. Olivia was recently predeceased by her namesake Oma, Johanna Brak, with whom she shared a special bond.
A funeral service will be conducted at Christ Church Anglican in Meaford on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11 o’clock, with visiting the hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre for a reception following the interment.
Olivia freely shared her joy for life, and her loved ones ask that you all take the time to spread goodness and kindness wherever you can. Liv. What a blessing. Your warm heart and magnetic personality have served the community as a symbol, make the choice to be happy. At school, your friends would trip over each other, having to get threw Brogan to help you in the front door. They become full of joy when they saw you and mom coming out of the van. Not only were you a positive spirit, you were a hard worker at school. You learned how to ask all your classmates the questions for SLS as well as the bonus questions. Your favourite was to hit your button again and again, if the student, you know who you are, wouldn’t answer fast enough. The laughs we would have. Best bonus question and answer, “What tattoo would you get?” Liv’s answer: Dad’s girl. You gave a stink face at times when you had to hold things in your hands, however you still did the work. Best activity: paper mache with Boyd. Heights didn’t bother you; you embraced things like the gondola at Blue and going down water slides. You loved going on the bus with DeCaire and Julie, the bigger the bump the better. And going outside for class excursions was the all time fav. Wind, rain, snow or sun, you loved them all. What a joy it was to be your teacher Olivia. You enriched my life and taught me about community. Your loving parents raised a stellar human being. And what happens in Niagara Falls stays in Niagara Falls. You will be missed beyond our understanding. You will be remembered in our hearts forever.

I had the pleasure and honour of knowing Liv from the age of 4. Her smile for those she loved and cared about, especially her mom and dad, would light up her eyes, shining love for them. It is with a heavy heart for those left behind that I quote these words of an anonymous poem.
Special Children
Hear no evil,
Smell life’s flowers,
Taste life’s riches
Speak God’s word,
And touch the hearts,
Of all who know them.
So many special memories I have to hold dear in my heart,
Love Cyndy, Peter and Allie

Vernon and Shirley,
We were very saddened to learn of Olivia’s passing. She has left a remarkable legacy behind. She has touched the lives of more people than any of us can imagine. Her smile was one of sheer love and gentleness. We recall when she got her award from nursery school where she made the most friends of everyone there. She loved to be outside in the warmth of the summer sunshine. She had great strength and fought through many battles, but the support from her school friends, teachers, caregivers and even strangers helped her move and enjoy another day. She was a ray of sunshine whenever anyone was around her. The support that the 2 of you gave her was monumental, and set examples for all of us to strive for. If we all can help each other to the extent that you helped Olivia, this would be a much better world. The wonderful stories of Olivia will truly live on.

Dear Shirley, Vern and family,
How saddened we were with the news of Olivia’s passing. We, in the adult Coyote Running Club, have so many memories of Shirley and Olivia in races. Some of us helped push, some ran with you both and we all cheered for you both as you crossed the finish line in our Meaford Harbour Race with those wonderful smiles. We remember the Santa Race in Waterloo where donned in Santa Suits, you both won the quilt then later many of the Coyotes carried Olivia in her chair upstairs in the restaurant. Shirley and Olivia were a familiar sight on the trail and the chair parked by Longs’ house made us all smile.
You are in our hearts….
Lorene and Quentin ( and the rest of the club).

I had the pleasure of getting to work with Olivia at Georgian Bay Community School. At the time Olivia was a grade nine and ten student. Her peers loved her….it wasn’t hard to understand why….she just had that smile and a way to make you feel her strength. She could light up a room or just make a connection by her attitude….she was impossible to resist.
She loved the sunshine…really a Sun Goddess.
Thinking of you all.
