Robertson, Michael 'Mike'
Mike Robertson, aged 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Meaford General Hospital.

Born on March 2, 1943, in Wanstead, England, he was the son of Fredrick “Ed” and Sophie (nee Silverstein) Robertson.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a cherished father, grandfather, and friend. He was the beloved father of Lorrie Robertson and Kathie Lopez, and the proud grandfather of Natalie McKay, Emily Lopez, and Ryan Lopez. He is fondly remembered by Christopher Merrifield and Daniel Lopez.
Upon arriving in Canada with his family in 1952, he attended school at Jarvis Collegiate Institute in Toronto. He then settled in Thornbury with his parents. Mike worked for over 40 years at Teledyne and enjoyed discussing politics, sharing his views through publishing his thoughts in the local Meaford paper.
He had a deep love for singing and performing, with a special fondness for Johnny Cash. His talent for working with his hands and his craftiness, including a passion for model trains, were well-known. He brought joy and laughter to those around him with his great sense of humor and “professional-level joke-telling”. The charitable contributions he made and participated in speak for themselves, as well as his love for animals, which was a testament to his kind and compassionate nature. He always showed care and affection to every creature he encountered. The truth be told, he loved most animals more than people.
For the last 10 years of his life, he shared a special bond with his best friend and companion, Doris Gamble. To those who knew him, he was a caring and strong individual who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of kindness, humour, and love will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Mike’s life will take place in the Galleries at the Meaford Hall on Friday, April 11th, 2025 from 12 noon until 3 p.m., tributes will be shared at 1 o’clock.

Lorrie and Kathie-
My deepest condolences to you, and all those that had the joy of having Mike as part of their lives. The last time I spoke with Mike he was telling me stories of your great accomplishments, and just how proud he was of you.
Mike was a great friend to both my parents, and always kept us laughing with the many jokes he emailed. He will be missed.

I astonished my wife a ways back by telling her I wanted to meet three new people.
Three men who liked “sharing his views through publishing his thoughts in the local Meaford paper.” I sometimes did that from time to time myself.
I met the first. Enjoyed every minute. Plan to meet the second. Expect to enjoy every minute again.
The third author I had my sights set on was Mike Robertson.
I got close once. The volunteers at the Net Shed told me he wasn’t there but I could probably meet Mike at the concert at the Pavilion the next day. We were busy. I should have tried harder.
Mr. Robertson. We never met. I just came here to say I enjoyed your views every time I read them and I appreciated you sharing them.
And I am sorry I never got to tell you that in person.

So sorry for your loss, I grew up as a neighbour of your Moms and so knew your Dad from the time they met and then your Dad coached our broomball team for a while. He certainly was a memorable man!

Sending condolences to Mike’s family, friends, and community. Mike was my colleague for many years at Teledyne – such a talented man! He was a mentor, a firm boss with a huge soft spot, my broomball coach, a music lover, an artist, a writer, indeed a professional level joke-teller, and a proud father and grandfather. When we would run into each other over the years, he always spoke of his girls and family, and asked after ours. Rest in Peace, Mike

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. I have crossed paths with your Dad over many years. The last time was in the grocery store in Meaford and had a great catch up. And I also was a member of his broomball team.
My condolences to you both and your families.

We first got to know Mike when he volunteered for the Friends of Meaford Library for many years and became known as the ‘blue box guy’ for the Net Shed. A rough exterior of a man with a big heart. He didn’t need a backup band for his concerts at the Harbour Pavilion and I’m sure he could have taken a Johnny Cash tribute show on the road! But we will remember him most for keeping tabs on us when we moved out west after 16 years in Meaford. He was caring and will be missed. I wish we could be there this Friday to give condolences to his family who he was so proud of, and to give Doris a hug.

To all of Mike’s family
He always had a smile , and time to talk, especially the latter years. He coached us in broomball and I saw him at all sports , functions, and anything with music.
Hold on to the memories, they may fade, but never go away.
Thinking of you.

I worked with Mike for his last years at Teledyne. He was well respected for the knowledge he had of the manufacturing process and running the front office. He always worked in the best interest of the site and everyone knew they could trust his judgement. The company was successful because of the hard work he did day in and day out. He had a great sense of humour (dry at times!) and was such a great story teller. He will be missed by all. Deepest condolences from everyone at Astec (previously known as Teledyne).
