Sewell, Barbara Joan

Barbara Joan (nee Campbell), born in Durham on January 2, 1943, will be remembered as the chosen daughter of Wes and Myrtle (nee Turner) Patton of Blantyre. She passed away at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood on Monday March 23, 2020 at the age of 77.

Joan will be forever remembered as a devoted and beloved wife of more than 56 years by her loving husband William ‘Bill’ Sewell of Meaford whom she married at Temple Hill on June 8, 1963. She is survived by her loved son Jeff (Heidi) Sewell of Jefferson, Ohio and daughter Teresa (Patrick) Hennessy of Brighton, Ontario and by her two granddaughters and one great grandson.

Joan was a dear sister to brothers John and Isabel Campbell deceased of Ottawa, Jim Campbell deceased of Alberta, Glen Campbell of Owen Sound, and Bev and Brenda Campbell of Chatsworth, and to sisters Margaret (Ted Forbes) of Elliott Lake and Olive Ellis deceased and she is remembered by Olive’s husband Don of Meaford.  Joan was also predeceased by her chosen Patton siblings: Pauline and Alex McGillivray of Mount Forest, Leona and Johnny Lewis, Doris and Charlie McKenzie and Elwood and Terry Patton all of Holstein, Roy Patton of Collingwood, Lorne and Irene Patton of Durham and Gregory Patton aged 7 of Blantyre.

She will be recalled with great affection as a dear sister-in-law by Gord and Teryl Sewell of Euphrasia Township and Marion and the late Robert ‘Bob’ Sinclair of Guelph and by their families.  Cremation has taken place and a graveside service of committal and interment of Joan’s cremated remains will take place at Temple Hill Cemetery at a date to be announced.  A memorial gathering celebrating Joan’s life may also be planned at a later date.

If so desired and as your expression of sympathy, donations to Georgian Triangle Hospice (Campbell House) – cheques only please – Temple Hill Cemetery – cheques only please – or Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation (Oncology) would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON  N4L 1B9 to whom funeral arrangements have been entrusted.

    Condolences to Bill and family, I was lucky to have met Joan a few years ago. I enjoyed talking to both of you during Joan’s cancer visits. She was always smiling and talking about going to dances on the weekends when she felt like it. I am sorry that you have lost your special dance partner.
