Kulakowsky, Adam

On February 10, Adam Kulakowsky passed suddenly in his sleep. He was surrounded by his wife Allison, and his daughters Ella and Adelaide who were his world. Adam leaves behind his father Thomas, his mother Sonia, his brother Michael, father-in-law and mother-in-law Don and Lynne Webb, brother-in-law Bry, sister-in-law Sofie, nephew Kaj, niece Freja, niece Asa and many aunts, uncles and cousins, and his dog Viggo.

Adam was born in Hamilton in 1979, but grew up in Grimsby.  He spent his formative years frolicking on the family’s Christmas tree farm.  Adam attended McMaster University and graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002.  Adam had an illustrious career playing varsity football and then following a back injury, varsity soccer at MacMaster University.  Adam followed his passion for working with children and attended Teachers College at Canisius College in New York, graduating in 2004.

He started his teaching career in 2004.  Adam had many roles at various schools over his 20 years of teaching.  He began his teaching career in Mississauga for a short assignment at Churchill Meadows.  In 2008 Adam and Alli decided to make the move north and joined the Bluewater District School Board. His first assignment was at Highpoint Community School in Dundalk where he worked as a Learning Resource teacher, helping students with unique needs. He then moved to Osprey Community School in Maxwell for a short assignment with a junior grade homeroom class. His next school was Meaford Community School in Meaford where he had many different assignments including Learning Resource and Homeroom. After several years in Meaford, Adam settled at Beaver Valley Community School in Thornbury for his longest assignment primarily as a junior grade 6 homeroom teacher. Adam most recently taught in the Humanities Department at Stanstead College and coached the junior boys soccer and senior girls basketball teams.  He always brought charisma, humour, and sometimes controversy to each school.  Adam had a passion for fitness, sports, coaching, and a good bicep pump. His endless hours poured into coaching young athletes will leave a legacy and a newly cultivated love for sport.

He will forever be remembered for his amazing impersonations, athletic skill, and his “Gap Kids” sized muscle shirts.  Whether coaching soccer, basketball or track and field, Adam was always entertaining, enthusiastic and cared tremendously about his students. He was competitive and his coaching went well beyond the school setting. Adam was very involved with coaching rep soccer, and running track events. His level 3 ¼ ski instructor coaching qualifications brought him to the hill to guide young skiers.  Adam was also a talented musician and this could be appreciated by all of his students during one of his many “Face Melting Guitar Solos” during the school day. He loved to jam with his girls (Ella and Adelaide) in school talent shows.

Adam will be greatly missed by his very large loving family and many wonderful friends.
