Gamble, Agnes 'Eileen'
Eileen Gamble passed away peacefully at her home in Thornbury on Monday, August 14, 2023 in her 83rd year.
Eileen was predeceased by her loving husband of more than 50 years, Robert James ‘Bob’ Gamble.
Eileen is survived by her son Steven Gamble (Deanna) of Kanata, her daughter Tracey Morden (Todd) of Elmvale, and her daughter Tanya Gamble (Yves) of Newmarket. She was the proud Nana of Julie, Zander, Annika, Fisher, Maxim and Madelène. She will be sadly missed by her sister Mary Young (Carl), and sisters-in-law Helen Thorne (late Bryan) and Laura Gamble (late Ron), and her many nieces, nephews and their families. Eileen is predeceased by her brothers Donald and John, and parents Rachael and Harold Micks.
Eileen was born in Collingwood, Ontario and moved to the Town of Thornbury in 1963. Eileen was a devoted mother to her children, and the ‘cool’ Aunt who loved and spoiled her nieces and nephews greatly. As an avid knitter, she provided many friends and family members with the gifts of warm socks, mittens, sweaters, blankets and more. Her heart was as big as her warm and sometimes mischievous smile. She was always looking out for others and opportunities to assist in any way that she could in a community that she loved dearly. Eileen contributed to many community programs, including teaching Sunday school at the Presbyterian Church, delivering ‘Meals on Wheels’, the knitting club, and more recently could be found leading a rousing game of Bingo in senior’s programs.
Cremation has taken place and a service of committal and inurnment will be conducted at the Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1 p.m. with a celebration of Eileen’s life to follow at the Thornbury Library from 2 until 4 p.m., tributes will be shared at 2:30 p.m.

So sorry to hear of Eileen’s passing. I have many fond memories of her and Bob. They moved to our neighbourhood when I was 7. My first memory was falling into their car tire when I was learning to ride a bicycle. Many hours were spent playing badminton with them and my brother. It was a big deal when their pre fab home was delivered and put together. My first snowmobile ride was on Bob’s Skidoo. Then Steven arrived on my 13th birthday. Eileen was like a second mother to me after my mom’s passing. She was a kind and caring person who holds a special place in my heart. Sending thoughts and big hugs to Steven, Tracey and Tanya and families. She was so proud of her family.

Growing up on Elma Street and watching the first house I knew of, coming on a trailer, in two parts, was pretty amazing. Everyone stood around and watched it. Eileen with her infectious smile and laughter, always a smile. A genuine caring and loving person that will truly be missed by the community as a whole.
Hold on to your mom’s smile, her laughter, and watch the memories unfold. She will always be with you and now is with your dad.

I will miss Eileen very much. When I moved to Thornbury five years ago I joined the knitting club at the library where I met Eileen along with the other ladies. They all were very welcoming to me and indeed Eileen became a friend over the ensuing years. The knitting club continued even through covid times meeting on Eileen’s driveway under her maple tree during the summer. Her friendship and fellowship meant a great deal to me and I will certainly miss her company, her sense of humour and her beautiful smile.
