Wilson, Alexander James

'Alex'

Alex Wilson of Kolapore, passed away peacefully, after a short illness, on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at the age of 89.

He was born in Clarksburg on January 29th, 1932, and raised in Kolapore, and was the son of the late Wilfred and Alma (nee Tracey) Wilson. He was the second youngest of 12 siblings.

Alex was predeceased by his wife of 50 years – Hilda (nee Blakey) in 2009 and their daughter Teresa Rimmer in 2005.

He was the proud father of Janis (Bruce) Foster of Kolapore, Della (Emerson) Keill of Elliot Lake, Donald Wilson of Kolapore, Darryl (Donna) Wilson of Collingwood, Dianne (Shane) Jolley of Owen Sound, and Eric (Amanda) Wilson of Berkeley.

He was the dearly loved Grampa of Bev, Kim, Jessie, Cayla (Cameron), Heather, Laura (Aaron), Peter, Lisa, Sarah and Wyatt, and Great Grampa to Jenson, Adelaide, and Henry.

Alex is remembered and loved by his sisters Bernice Ford of Stayner, Doris Bowins of Collingwood, Marjorie Denbok of Collingwood, and sisters in law Gloria (Frank) Wilson of Markham and Anita (Alvin) Wilson of Kolapore. He was predeceased by 3 brothers and 5 sisters, and will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families.

As a farmer, Alex lived and worked his entire life in the Kolapore Uplands and cared a great deal about this community and its residents. He was an active member of the Kolapore Nazarene Church.  Alex was interested in the Niagara Escarpment and advocated for responsible use of farmland and forestry. It was Alex’s wish to live out his life on the farm and as he did it is comforting to know that he expressed contentment and peace in his last days.

Alex’s family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, for a public visitation on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 2 until 5 p.m. A service of interment will be conducted at Maxwell Cemetery on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 11 o’clock.

Alex was an avid supporter of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Canada. He donated the use of land, for CFGB projects, and along with neighbours, he planted and harvested crops to raise money for hunger relief.  As an expression of your sympathy, donations may be made through Ferguson Funeral Home or the Kolapore Church of the Nazarene. Cheques only please, made payable to “Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Canada” and indicate Markdale Grow Hope. Your support to this local project will aid in ending world hunger.

    To the Wilson Family

I remember the family connection from many years ago when I would be invited to speak at the Kolapore Church on Sundays. I also remember the family from my days at Clarksburg Camp. May the Lord be with you & bless you in this time of grieving. He is with His Lord in Heaven, living the eternal life that Jesus has promised His followers. I pray that the Lord will bless you with His Presence, Protection & especially His peace right now & in the days ahead.

We have missed seeing you, Alex, and your family during this pandemic and we will continue to miss you always. When Darryl married our daughter, Donna, we became family and were always welcomed into your home. Visiting a family that serves our God is a blessing that we all enjoyed so much.
You will always be in our hearts and remembered with loving memories.

It has now happened to Alex and just a short time ago, he was with us…
He was bright, patient, evangelical, kind always serving me dinner…glad to see a visitor… and spend the time chatting, sharing and caring….
Alex came my way once with a load of something or other and it was a wonderful experience watching him manoeuvre with his shrewd eye just how he would get his machinery in and out of the tight spaces.. He was a wonderful trouble shooter..
I know how much he counted on Jesus and how faithful and respective he was towards Him.. and now he is with Him… imagine that.. Alex is now with the Lord..after a long spell of being here with us…making valuable contributions to our community in time and action and fellowship. I will really miss you, Alex because it has been a long, loving and caring friendship.. see you one day again.. and Thankyou for your Christian input into my life…

I’m very sorry to hear about Uncle Alex. We got to spend a lot of time together in my summers on the farm. He set a great example to his nephew: hardworking, humble, faithful, and thoughtful. He also had a great sense of humour & and a distinctive infectious laugh. When equipment broke down, he didn’t get mad, he just set about figuring out how to fix it. And he was very good at mechanical repairs including welding. I have so many stories I could tell. I am really sorry I can’t make the trip from Montreal for the funeral. He had such a big part in my development as a person and a man.
My condolences to the family and best wishes for all my cousins.

Deepest sympathies. Alex was always one of my favourite Kolapore farmers. He loved the land and God. Could guarantee engaging conversation around the table when he was there! Fond memories of all our time shared at the farm especially the hay rides on the escarpment around the property. Prayers of peace and comfort to you all as you celebrate his life.
