Clarke, Alvin Louis

Alvin passed away peacefully at the Meaford Hospital with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at the age of 94.

Alvin was the loving husband of Audrey for 72 years, loving and supporting father of Linda Holden (Barry), Judy Clarke (Victor Kelly), Carolin Panetta (Sergio) and was predeceased by his son Gary in 2005. He was the proud grandfather of Jennifer Shaw (Nigel), Karen Kollias, Gregory Holden (Kim), Torrie Skoczylas (Serg), Melinda Clarke, Giancarlo Panetta, Giuliana Panetta and eight great grandchildren.

Born on September 5th, 1929, he was the son of the late Robert and Myrtle Clarke (nee Isaac) and brother of the late Harvey (Fran) and the late Fred (Leona).  He will be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.

Alvin grew up on a farm on the 10th line in Collingwood Township.   He drove a truck for some local businesses until he purchased his own truck in 1961.  Alvin hauled livestock and did general trucking in the Collingwood, St. Vincent and other area townships for over 40 years.  He retired at age 72 and went to work for Harvey Fulford Haulage until he turned 80.

Alvin and Audrey were often seen attending local dances and many house parties over the years.  They left their Clarksburg home after 63 years and were currently living in Thornbury.  Alvin enjoyed joining friends at the local Tim Horton’s and keeping up with family and friends.

Alvin will be greatly missed in the Clarksburg Community.

Audrey and the family would like to thank the staff at Brightshores Health System Meaford for their attentive and professional care over the last nine weeks.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 10 until 12 noon at the Meaford United Church. A funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.  All are invited to attend the service of committal and interment at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

Alvin always had smile . So sorry Audrey, Judy, Linda, Caroline and their families.
I can still hear his laughter watching as I was helping unload steers, until a massive one with horns came down the ramp.
I found a tree to climb and watched Alvin and my dad round that one up.
    Treasure your memories.

Alvin got his last wish. Judy told us just last week he wanted to go home or heaven.
I know these weren’t exactly the words Judy used. Condolences to the whole family. He was a great neighbor and friend to us in Clarksburg.

Audrey, Linda, Judy, Caroline and family:
May it help to know we all thought Alvin was a great man, husband, father, grandpa and friend. I remember him coming to the farm to pick up cattle, always a smile and time to talk. His birthday party turning 90, coffee at Tim’s, the list goes on. Hold on to the memories and time spent with him.
Sending you all a big hug.

We send our deepest sympathy to the Clarke family. He was an excellent truck driver, could manouver farm laneways and seldom get stuck. He also was great to bring special loads from the city. We loaded quite a few pigs and cattle at our farms. He very often picked up our stock at 6 am and he was never late. Once again we send our condolences to your family
