Lainey, Andrew William

It is with deep sadness that the family of Andrew Lainey announce his passing on Friday, September 30, 2022 at his home in Thornbury at the age of 32.

Andrew was born in London, Ontario, and spent the first nine months of his life in hospital. Despite his myriad of medical issues, he grew into the most delightful, lovable little boy who could make anyone smile. Andrew spent some of the best years of his life at Beaver Valley Community School (BVCS). He was adored by his teachers and educational assistants, and had many friends who treated him with kindness and respect. For the rest of his life, Andrew loved looking at his BVCS yearbooks; those memories brought him such comfort and joy.

As he got older, Andrew graduated from Georgian Bay Secondary School, and became an integral member of the Events For Life program in Thornbury. He spent many years as a regular attendee, enjoying daily activities, field trips, snacks, and the company of the most kindhearted people. Andrew will be so dearly missed by his very special Events For Life family.

Words cannot express how deeply Andrew will be missed by his adoring father Peter, and his big sister and fiercest protector Allison (Colin Matheson). His niece Lucy will miss spending time with him as she gets older, and will miss out on the valuable lessons Andrew taught all those who were lucky enough to know him. He is predeceased by his “sweet mom” Crystal Grove Lainey. There was no one that Andrew loved more in this world than his mom; she was the center of his universe, and we find peace in knowing that they are together again.

We would like to thank the Thornbury community for giving our sweet Andrew such a safe and loving place to spend his life. We are especially grateful to the staff and members of Beaver Valley Community School, Events for Life, and the Blue Mountain Community Church. Everywhere he went, Andrew was so, so loved.

A celebration of Andrew’s life will be conducted at Blue Mountain Community Church in Thornbury on Friday, October 21st, 2022 at 1 o’clock. A private interment will take place at Thornbury Clarksburg Union Cemetery in Thornbury.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to Events for Life – Thornbury, (Cheques ONLY Please) or directly through their website at www.eventsfor.life would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.   www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

Andrew, I am so glad I got to play “What time is it, Mr. Wolf “on Wednesday with you. We had a blast. You always brought sweetness and wonder to everything you did. You are also the best handshaker I know. It will be so lovely to be with your Mom. Remember you and Mom have to watch over Dad, Allison, Colin and Lucy. Evie is missing you. We are keeping everyone in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Peter, Allison, Colin & Lucy
My heart was so shocked and saddened to hear of Andrew’s passing. We spent so many years together at BVCS & GBSS. Andrew was a delight to work with and so willing to learn and do his best. Even after graduating, if I ran into Andrew, he would have a big smile and a good strong handshake. I will cherish all the wonderful memories I have of all the years we shared. It brings me comfort to think of Andrew and Crystal walking the streets of heaven together, just as they did in Thornbury. Sending big hugs to all of you. Sandi

Dear Peter and Allison and family
Thinking of all of you at this very sad time as you mourn and say goodbye to your beloved Andrew. I supported Andrew in many of the programs and classes at GBSS. We all loved Andrew for his smile, his awesome hand shakes and always his concern for the people around him. He was such a pleasure in our class. He left a positive, lasting impression on many of the staff and students at GBSS. Know that although his life was too short, he left a lasting legacy behind with his smile and positive attitude. Rest In Peace dear Andrew reunited with your Mom.
Take care of each other and when you find you are strong enough to smile again you’ll remember Andrew and his lasting smile.

    Dear Peter, Allison and family,

My husband Gord and I were saddened to hear of Andrew’s passing, we will both miss his friendly greetings at church.

Andrew had a strong and welcoming handshake, he also had a very special way of helping make a person feel comfortable and always seemed to just..know when I wasn’t well or struggling with my physical health and would go out of his way to greet me.

Gord and I both know he is in Heaven with his wonderful mom Crystal whom we also miss on earth, we take comfort in knowing we will see our loved brother and sister again one day, when we too will have an end to our earthly journey taking Jesus hand on that day and be found safely forever home with our Lord.

Praying the Lord heals your broken hearts and gives you strength and courage.

Dear Peter, Allison, Colin & Lucy

At such times there really are no adequate words.
I loved sitting behind Crystal, Andrew and Peter at church. If Andrew wasn’t turning the pages in his school yearbook he was touching his mom in a gentle way , looking around and smiling. I always looked forward to that moment when we would greet others and Andrew would turn around and give the BEST handshake.
I believe he is absent from his earthly body and present with his Lord. Crystal would have been right behind the Saviour welcoming Andrew home.
Peter, please know that I will continue to pray for your family as you adjust to life (again) without a beloved member at the table.
Allison I witnessed your love and fierce protectiveness of your brother on only 2 occasions but oh the love was palpable❣️
May you feel His comfort in these days of numbness and shock.
