Alderdice, Aubrey George

Aubrey passed away at Brightshores Owen Sound Hospital on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at the age of 87.

Born in Markdale on July 9, 1938, the eldest child of the late George and Marjorie (nee Lougheed) Alderdice.

Aubrey will be missed by his brothers Eldon Alderdice (Tim) and Ivan Alderdice (Mary), sister Anne McIntyre (Peter), and was predeceased by his brother Ross Alderdice (late Eva) and sister-in-law Gloria.  He will be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews and their families.

Aubrey was happiest when he was able to use his skills and talents to help others.  He was very smart and strong willed, which really helped him to accomplish many of the jobs that he tackled.  He had friends all over the country, and kept in touch using Ham radio and was extremely knowledgeable about how to use it best.  If he couldn’t figure something out right away, he would read up on it until he mastered it. Aubrey was always prepared and kept anything he might need close by, or in his front pocket. He started out his working years with Bell Canada installing direct dialing.  Aubrey became an Electrician at Base Borden and commuted back and forth for more than 30 years.  Many of his co-workers became like family to him and he treasured his years there.   Aubrey loved being outdoors fishing and hunting and spending time catching up with family and friends. He was predeceased by his dear friend, Bob Petch, and will be remembered fondly by Bob’s wife, Barb who has continued to keep in touch.  A special thank you to Barb Petch and Mary Alderdice who have  been a great help to Aubrey during some challenging times.

Family will receive friends for a public visitation at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 5 until 8 p.m.  A private graveside service will be conducted at St. James Fairmount Cemetery in the near future.

Aubrey and I became friends riding the school bus. We also shared some interesting pursuits such as becoming founding members of the first 4 H Bee Club in Ontario (under the leadership of teacher L.H.Beamer.)
Aubrey became an excellent electrician and later wired our house.
He was a good man, unique in so many ways and will be missed by all who knew him.

    Ivan, Mary and family
My sincere condolences on the loss of your brother Aubrey.
Aubrey and I had many interesting chats over the years, he loved to
talk about his Ham radio and people he communicated with
all over the world. I do remember him saying… wait Isabelle, I have
that written down and sure enough it was in his front pocket of his shirt.
    He will be missed.
