McDonald, Barbara Frances

October 9, 1935 - December 14, 2025

It is with sadness the family of Barbara McDonald (nee MacPhee) announce her peaceful passing at the age of 90 – with her loving daughter and dear close friend by her side at the PeopleCare Meaford Long-Term Care home on Sunday December 14, 2025.

Born to the late Paul MacPhee and Sarah Hilda MacPhee (nee MacDonald) of Prince Edward Island.

She is survived by her loving daughter Alana, her siblings Paul MacPhee (Patricia) and Joan Maxwell, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who were all so dear to her.

Pre-deceased by her husband Alan McDonald, siblings Anne MacDonald, Mary MacPhee, Catherine MacPhee, Helen MacPhee, Margaret Woltman-Mills, Gerard MacPhee, infant sister Mary Josephine, nephews Mark MacPhee and Bert Dykerman.

A small celebration of life will take place in Meaford, ON in the spring, followed by celebration on Prince Edward Island soon after.

Barbara would have certainly heard the call of the fiddle and will be dancing her way to the ceilidh in heaven.

May the road rise up to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back,

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

the rains fall soft upon your fields

and until we meet again

May God hold you in the hollow

of his hand.

~ Traditional Gaelic blessing.

Barbara and I worked together for several years at The Apple Country Kitchen and then at Dad’s Restaurant for more. They were great places to work and we always had fun too. When we both retired we took each other out for birthdays. My sincere sympathy to Alanna and Barbara’s family members.

    Alana,
Our most heartfelt condolences. We were blessed to have your family as neighbours and we have the best memories especially when the children were younger. The Easter egg hunts around “Stonehenge” and hikes up the back field were wonderful. Your mum was a very special lady and with winter solstice approaching we will celebrate your mum in mind as she always did!
    Much love
    Bodo, Di and family

Growing up next door, my favourite memories will always be Anut Barb, jumping the old red Pontiac through the ditch and mud puddles up the driveway. Also many fond memories of the older blue Pontiac in Dundas with the hole in the floor you could see the road when driving.
    Rest in Peace Aunt Barbra

Alana, I am so sorry to read of your mom’s passing. She was a force, so passionate and your biggest champion (as was your dad!). I have so many fond memories of the time I spent in your house and the many hours she spent watching you on the ice all those years ago. My deepest condolences.

Some of my favourite memories of Aunt Barb include her and I trading Tall Bearded Irises every year amongst other plants. I always look out in my garden and remember her when my new plants mature and bloom beautifully. . The huge Birthday Suppers she made in my honor while playing my favourite music and providing the cake. And; for her allowing me to come and wait with her and Audrey or Alana for some of the many procedures she has endured at the hospital and for finding the strength within her tired self to meet up with me for a meal out. I will treasure these memories. Alana, we are so sorry for this loss. It has been a long journey for you, your mom and her biggest supportive friend. We wish you peace as you begin a new journey without her. Be kind to yourself. We are here if you need us. ❤️

Dear Alana. Please accept our deep condolences for you in the passing of your Mom. I am sure that she is now at peace and suffering no more pain. I recall ❤️ driving back to Dundas with you and her in my car . We had some conversation but more important was the music screaming out of the dashboard, Once we made Guelph you came to life and ordered ice cream,,, girl after my own heart. Think of you so often and know that you have friends for supports but we still think of you as ours!

Will definitely Be there in the Spring. Lots of of love going out to you. My typing is very out of practice. Love from Aunt Lois and Uncle Larry.
