Johnston, Barbara June

Barbara was the much-loved mother of two children, adored grandmother of five, and proud great-grandmother of six. Family was at the heart of her life, and she found immense joy in watching each generation grow and thrive.

Barbara studied nursing directly after high school, dedicating herself to the care and well-being of others. Her commitment to service extended far beyond her profession. She was a devoted volunteer with the IODE for 50 years, with Ronald McDonald House for 32 years and contributed countless hours to many causes that strengthened her community. Throughout her life, she was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.  Known for her warmth and generosity, Barbara had a special love for children and animals. She welcomed both into her life with kindness, patience, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone she met.

An avid swimmer, Barbara passed on her love of the water by teaching all the children in her family to swim, creating memories and confidence that would last a lifetime.  Some of Barbara’s happiest years were spent at the family cottage on Round Lake. First enjoyed as a young girl, the cottage remained a treasured place throughout her life, where she later delighted in sharing its beauty and traditions with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara will be remembered for her compassion, dedication to others, love of family, and unwavering spirit of service. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and, in the family, she loved so deeply.

Mum, Nana, Great-Nana will be greatly missed but leaves her family with happy memories and stories to share.
