Maxwell, Barbara Kester

July 8, 1942 - May 3, 2024

Barb passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3rd, 2024 at the age of 82.

Born in Toronto on July 8th, 1942 she spent her childhood with her family going to church, and enjoying music, dancing and figure skating with friends.  She later aspired to move away and start fresh where she could plant roots and enjoy new experiences.  This brought her to Meaford, where she fell in love with the picturesque landscapes, beaches and great fishing locations.  She loved nothing more than beating her fellow fishermen by reeling in the “biggest catch”.

She will be missed by her husband, John ‘Scotty” Roderick Maxwell of Meaford, and her cherished friends Daniel Anderson (Heather) and family as well as, Linda Atkinson, her travelling buddy and partner in crime on many shopping excursions and entertainment adventures.

Volunteering and giving back to her community were very important to Barb.  She donated many years of service to the Royal Canadian Legion in Meaford where she helped plan Friday Supper events and worked in the kitchen.  With the closing of the Meaford Branch location in 2009, her role switched to more administrative tasks such as attending meetings and recording minutes.  This role also included working collaboratively with her community.  She took great pride in working with the local school, Georgian Bay Community, each fall to support the Legion and teachers in “inspiring youth to carry the torch of remembrance”.  This was in preparation for the Legion’s annual poster and literacy contest where she would help collect and organize the entries, was a member of the judging panel and would prepare and presenting prizes and certificates to the many winners.

As evident in her calling to give back, she was a very kind and thoughtful woman.  The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Barb.  She loved a quiet evening with friends and loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals and baked goods.  She was always there to share her creations, lend a helping hand, be a listening ear or share in a giggle or joke to lighten the mood.  She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

There will be a private celebration of ceremony at a later date.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32 (Cheques only please) would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford. ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.  www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

As President of the Meaford Legion I will miss her terribly. She has been my right hand as my secretary. We, her fellow Comrades will miss her smile and dedication to her post. One of the sweetest women I have known. Goodbye Barb.
