Zwering-Button, Bonnie

September 30, 1962 - September 13, 2024

Bonnie Zwering-Button passed away peacefully with her partner of 32 years, Jackie P. Curtis and family by her side at the age of 61, on September 13, 2024, at Brightshores Hospital in Meaford.

Bonnie Zwering was born in Sarnia, Ontario on September 30, 1962 along with her twin sister, Brenda, whom she adored.

Predeceased by her parents, Klass Zwering and Johanna Ferguson, and recently her oldest sister, Margie Stanley.

Bonnie was so grateful for Janet Weiler after dropping out of high school. Janet provided her support with a home and guidance while Bonnie achieved her High School Diploma before following through with a “Developmental Service Worker Diploma” at St. Clair College, which led to a very satisfying career.

Manufacturing was her passion as well as learning new equipment, moving from Operator, Process Specialist, and to Shift Supervisor in a foundry. During a plant closure, Bonnie was fortunate to be a successful candidate for a new facility training program, learning to run automated processes for fermentation and distillation systems to produce Ethanol. She loved this position, but it went bankrupt after 7 years of operation.

Bonnie was married at a young age to Jim Button. Jim was attending a Christian Revival Convention in New Orleans where he was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a street. This was a difficult time for Bonnie and she made the decision to move close with her twin sister Brenda, and enjoyed being a part of her family.

Bonnie was always a very independent person who took pride in everything that she did. She took on her father’s personality, being at her best when working hard and achieving self-satisfaction requiring little attention; but at the same time being hard on themselves and, at times, struggling with anxiety.

She cared for everyone, never expected anything in return, and always wanted the best for people and the ones she loved.

Bonnie had been struggling with pain in her joints, believing it was caused from years of hard work. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Stage-4 cancer with metastasis to areas in her body leaving her with a brief time with us.

The Attending Physician, Dr. J. Hudson, provided Bonnie with excellence in care with both her physical and mental health needs. VON Home Care Nurse, Cindy Dillon (RN) supports were greatly appreciated in our home.

Bonnie was so grateful for her partner, Jackie Curtis, and their life that they built together. They were always looking out for one another and did everything together. You would often find them

playing competitive ball where they met, or at their golf and squash membership establishments where they spent many hours, often seen enjoying pints of beers together. They also enjoyed many warm climate vacations together. Bonnie and Jackie purchased the home that they have now shared for 20 years. Jackie will miss their partnership but vows to take pride and care in what they had achieved together.

Bonnie’s nephew’s; Ricky Zwering, Michel Henri, Cory McAllister and Brandon Henri meant the world to her. Sadly, we lost Brandon on July 3, 2023, which really broke Bonnie’s heart.

She will be missed by her twin sister, Brenda (Mitch), Henri, her brother Ken Zwering and youngest sister Sandra Pennie, and brothers-in-law Alvin (Laurie) McAllister and her son Shawn (Kelsey) Gesinghaus, and Cory (Jenny) McAllister and their children Kayne and Ainsley.

A private service and cremation have taken place.

Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and of good courage, life can be full of challenges, sorrows and tough decisions, but even amidst hardship, the Lord counsels us to be strong and courageous.”

As your expression of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers; “Please just be a good person, love who you can, help when you can, and give what you can”.

Sending love to the family. I worked with Jackie for a few years. Bonnie and Jackie spoiled my son Ellis with Bonnie dropping off after school pizzas, happy meals and just overall love. I always giggled with story’s from Jackie about Bonnie. I didn’t get a chance to know her well but I feel like I got a sence of her fun personality through Jackie’s Stories. Sending love to you Jackie.

I’m having a hard time to find the words on how to send my deepest heartfelt sympathies. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. There are no words that can relieve the pain. I know you don’t get over it, you just get through it. It doesn’t ‘get better’; it just gets different. Praying for friends and family to comfort you, faith to uphold you, and loving memories, to help you through it.

Bonnie was much too young to die but at least she is no longer in pain. We found Bonnie to be a warmhearted, generous, caring, considerate and helpful person. Together with Jackie, she was a truly excellent neighbour to have living across the road. She will be greatly missed.
