McVicar, Catherine Anne 'Cathy'

June 5, 1930 - August 27, 2023

Cathy, who will be dearly missed by her family and friends, passed peacefully in her sleep on August 27, 2023.

Cathy was predeceased by her beloved husband Alexander Graham ‘Bud’ McVicar in 2017.

She was the much-loved mother of Bruce Daniel McVicar, Gordon Alexander ‘Sandy’ McVicar, Donald Roy McVicar (d. 2016), Anne Louise Rogers (nee McVicar) and her husband Paul Rogers.

Proud grandmother and great grandmother of Andrew (Becca); Stephanie (Spencer) and their daughter Elouise; Ian (Laura) and their children Spencer and Lauralie; Colin (Hugh); Kevin; Jennifer; Sharon (Peter) and their children Taylor and Robyn; and Amanda (Will).

Cathy grew up in Toronto with her mother, Minnie Louise Coutts and her three siblings. She spent summers on Lake of Bays in Muskoka where she formed a great love of nature.  She was active in sports and through skiing met her husband Alexander Graham ‘Bud’ McVicar. They began their family life in Orangeville and volunteered with the Ontario Ski Patrol. Their first child Bruce arrived soon and their second, Sandy arrived 2 years later. After a move to London, Ontario, they golfed and continued skiing where their third son, Don was born. After a short while there, they moved to Don Mills where Anne was born.

Cathy and the family went on many walks searching for different birds and volunteered marking the original routes on the Bruce Trail. While raising a young family, Bud and Cathy bought property on Gloucester Pool and built a cottage where many summers were spent with the whole family canoeing, boating and waterskiing. In the 70’s Cathy supported the family in their kayak trips and competitions. When Bud retired, they moved to Orillia and then Collingwood. They continued visiting the cottage, but also skiing, hiking, and exploring the Blue Mountains. Cathy spent the last 5 years at Errinrung Retirement home and enjoyed the friendship of her fellow residents. Her family are extremely grateful for the kindness and care she received while living there.  A life well lived.
