Plank, Dr. David Edward
March 16, 1943 - February 19, 2025
David Plank passed away peacefully at the Meaford Hospital on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 with his wife and best friend ‘Bethie’ by his side.

Born in Hamilton on March 16, 1943, he was a son of the late Arthur and Muriel (nee Groves) Plank. He loved sharing fabulous stories about his childhood in Hamilton.
David was predeceased by his wife Margaret Haney and his brother Donald Plank.
Loved dearly by his wife of almost 38 years, Beth. He was the caring and devoted dad to his children, Jennifer Plank (Kevin Hartman) and Karen Qureshi, and was the proud grandfather of Nisa Qureshi.
David will always be remembered for his kind actions, patience and gentle supportive ways.
His glass was always half full. David had a great sense of humour and never complained.
He loved the outdoors; hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, and biking in his spare time, and passed on his love of sports. He was a loyal Hamilton Tiger Cats fan. During University David portaged through Algonquin Park on numerous occasions and eventually bought a plot of land with his wife Marg, where they built a family cottage. David sold the cottage in Algonquin Park and enjoyed the cottage life at Beth’s family cottage at 16 Island Lake in Quebec. He enjoyed working at the cottage building a cathedral ceiling with Beth. David loved being on the water and enjoyed every aspect of the wilderness.
Dentistry was his life’s work, he enjoyed the challenges and creativity it presented. He truly cared for his patients. David would often help others in need of assistance, he would provide free dental care to his patients in the nursing home. In later years, David volunteered at the Errinrung Nursing Home in Thornbury, he found great joy in helping make others’ lives better any way he could.
David graduated from U of T in 1967. He had a dental practice in Hamilton for 30 years, and retired because of his arthritis. He was the President of Hamilton Academy of Dentistry; President of Hamilton Academy of Dentistry Study Club; President of International Dental Study Club; life member of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthetics; Member of Craigleith Ski Club, and a founding member of Beaver Valley Probus Club.
David loved life, loved dancing, and loved the people in his life. He will be dearly missed.
His loving actions will be cherished and not forgotten. Rest in peace, we’ll miss you.
A special thank you to the staff at the Meaford Hospital for the care and compassion shown to David and his family during such a challenging time.
Family will gather for a private celebration of David’s life.

Sorry to read this, Beth. You and David were wonderful neighbours and friends when we lived at Apple Jack many years ago but we unfortunately lost touch. David and AJ shared a passion for firefighting and we enjoyed his amusing stories about being a volunteer firefighter at the cottage. All the best.

Beth,
I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. He was a wonderful man who lived live in so many great ways. Knowing him through dentistry in Hamilton and skiing at Craigleith was very special.
The last few years have been difficult I know and he was so lucky to have you with him. Thanks for all your support and love which enriched his life so much.
He was lucky to be a helpful dentist to do many. What a privilege that is.
Thinking of you at this difficult time.
Hope to see you at Craigleith again.
Bless you.

Beth, I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. My wife Lynn worked for David for many many years and we became good friends during that time. Dave never failed to stay in touch with Lynn and she looked forward to their phone calls. Read up to her passing. He was a wonderful person

Beth,Karen and Nisa. We are so very sorry for your loss. David was a lovely man and I have fond memories of chatting at the Lake. I love this poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye and it seem appropriate to celebrate a man who so loved the outdoors. Hugs to you all. Tara, Tom, Ainslie and Taylor.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
