Docherty, Dennis

Born in Motherwell, Scotland on October 14, 1950, Dennis was a son of the late Duncan and Jean (nee Mitchell) Docherty. Dennis Docherty of Meaford passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 2, 2019 with his family by his side after a long, heroic battle with cancer.

Dennis will be remembered lovingly by his wife of 47 years, Carol Anne (nee MacLeod) Docherty, children Gillian and Andrew (Mona), and granddaughters, Holli and Taylor.

He is survived by his sister Janette Spence (Alasdair), his sister-in-law Susan Lorimer (John), and his brother-in-law Roger MacLeod (Margaret).

Dennis immigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1971 and then moved to Nova Scotia in 1972, where he met and married the love of his life, Carol. He worked for Michelin for 32 years in Nova Scotia and Ontario.  After his retirement he worked for Laurel Steel in Burlington, Acton Precision in Acton, and Airboss in Kitchener.  During his career, Dennis worked quite a bit in the Southern States and in Canada. In his spare time he enjoyed golf, curling, sailing and spending time with the ‘apples of his eye’, Holli and Taylor.

    Dear Carol, Gillian & Andrew
It is with a heavy heart we extend our condolences to you and your family. Dennis was not only a great co-worker at Michelin but also a very close friend for 37 years. We took on many ‘impossible’ challenges as a team especially in the Kitchener plant. Dennis was respected for his technical knowledge and his ability to work with many different people. My fondest memories were drinking very old scotch and playing Euchre on Ray’s sailboat every summer. Dennis made a mean sandwich that was enjoyed by the whole crew and made a great anchor man (to pull it up from the bottom of the lake).
    We will miss him sorely.

    Dearest Carol, Gillian & Andrew
We were so very sad to hear of Dennis’s passing. We remember all the great times the four of us sailed Georgian Bay on Daisy. Lots of laughs and special memories. Ray especially has wonderful memories of sailing with Dennis, Bob and Roy. He will be greatly missed.
Dennis will always be in our hearts. He was a very good man, husband, father and friend. Though not so good at Euchre as I recall.
We were away when we heard of his passing, otherwise we would definitely been at the service.
