Laycock, Dennis Melville
Dennis Laycock passed away peacefully at the Owen Sound Hospital on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the age of 78.
Born in Meaford on February 3, 1946, he was a son of the late Leslie and Bessie Louise (nee Rows) Laycock.
Dennis was predeceased by his brother Mervin Laycock in 1955.
One of the things that Dennis enjoyed most and will be remembered for was his time spent fishing. He was fortunate enough to have a job for many years doing something that he loved, working for John Perks on the commercial fishing boats. He also enjoyed sport fishing and held the record for #1 Whitefish in the world. Dennis was kind and generous with his fish and often shared with friends and those he knew would appreciate and enjoy his catch of the day. He was a caregiver for his mother at home and was extremely compassionate and patient with her, she passed in 2021 in her 99th year. He recently lost his dog ‘Benny’, who he absolutely adored. Dennis was lucky enough to win the Hospital Lottery many years ago and often supported charities any way he could. He was a good friend, and will be missed by many along the shoreline of Georgian Bay.
A private interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery.

Rest in peace Dennis. Say “hi” to your Mom for me (Bevie). I never minded her calling me that. I will miss your wave as you often passed me on my walk. Be good.

My sincere condolences to the Laycock family & the Meaford community on the loss of a great citizen. Dennis along with Bob Clarke would go up the Big Head River to find my Dad (Lionel Gibbons) fishing & have great chats! A good friend to many. Dennis will be missed.

Dennis was a new 2 year neighbor friend since we moved here. A special sweet friend. He shared his fish and we exchanged garden veggies. My little dogs would jump when they saw his blue car and get treats and swap howdies with Bennie. He will be extremely missed.

I remember when Dennis won the lottery and he drove around the neighbourhood in a new sports car. I also remember him walking back to the river to fish. I will miss his wave and smile . RIP

Dennis was my first cousin and I regret not having visited more often. He was a friendly guy and enjoyed his garden and fishing. He had many problems in his life but he seemed to have been able to turn things around and get on with his life. I am happy to see the remarks from some of those who had had contact with him. He was the best he could be!
