Bumstead, Douglas James 'Doug'

Doug passed away peacefully at Errinrung Long Term Care Centre in Thornbury on Monday, April 7, 2025.

He was the much-loved husband of 56 years to Susan Bumstead (nee Lake) of Clarksburg.  He was the treasured father of Janet of Connecticut and Jody (Paul) of Collingwood, and proud Poppa of Mason.

Doug grew up in Meaford, worked as a Building and Plumbing Inspector for the Town of The Blue Mountains.  With his background, Doug was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends with their home renovations. He was the ‘keeper’ of the flowers on the bridge in Clarksburg and enjoyed socializing with folks walking by while he was tending ‘dead heading’ to the planters.

Thank you to the Errinrung staff for their wonderful care while Doug was a resident there.

Cremation has taken place, there will be no funeral service.  A private interment will take place at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery in the near future.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Marsh Street Centre or Errinrung Resident’s Council would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.   www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

Susan and ” the girls”: It was a very long and debilitating journey but hold tight to your memories of the good times. Doug was a good neighbour, always ready to help a friend or join in one of our May 24 birthday baseball games. His smile will be remembered and all the events he and Susan worked on to promote and try to keep the small town attitude living in Clarksburg.

    Dear Sue, Janet & Jody,
We were sorry to hear about Doug’s passing. As a colleague of mine for several years, Doug always found the humour in situations, and his smile was infectious. Keith also knew Doug from his inspector days and we often ran into him out and about after his retirement and enjoyed catching up. He will be missed not only by his family but by his community.

    Our condolences,
    Barb & Keith Dooks
