Clarke, Dycie 'Darlene'

March 5, 1954 – January 11, 2025

Darlene passed away peacefully at Chapman House Hospice on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

Born in Owen Sound on March 5, 1954; Dycie Darlene Clarke (nee Rennie) of Meaford was in her 71st year.

Beloved wife to Dave of Meaford for 51 years. Loving mother of Stephanie Woodhouse (Wayne) of Meaford, Deanna Sinclair (Rob) of Elmira and Crystal Osborne (Devin) of Owen Sound. Cherished grandma of Grace and Claire Woodhouse, Stuart and Colton Sinclair and Ethan and Cuyler Osborne.

Dear sister of Shelley Beausejour (Peter Everett) of Nova Scotia and Shannon McCutcheon of Georgian Bluffs and sister-in-law of Brad Coleman of Meaford, Albert Henderson of Owen Sound and Valerie Clarke of Guelph. Darlene will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Darlene was predeceased by her father Hugh Rennie, her in laws Christie and Marion Clarke, her sister Wanda Henderson and in laws; Christine Coleman, Ted Clarke and Wayne McCutcheon.

Darlene worked at Meaford Nursing Home as a PSW prior to transitioning back to school at 35 years old, after her girls were in elementary school, to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated with honours and went on to work as an R.P.N. in Owen Sound and then Meaford General Hospital; providing excellent care to all. She was known to work many holidays to allow her colleagues with small children the opportunity to enjoy the time with their young families.

Darlene enjoyed cooking, playing scrabble and cribbage, crafting and watching movies. She also loved watching her husband’s, children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. She was very proud of all of her girls’ accomplishments and grandchildren’s successes; she was often heard reporting to others the accolades of her family members.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Meaford United Church on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 1 o’clock.  Following the service there will be a come and go luncheon from 2-4 to exchange memories and celebrate her life.

Darlene was always so pleasant and kind everytime we spoke. The one thing that was always important to her was her family. Everytime we had a visit she always talked about each and everyone of you. She spoke so proudly of all the accomplishments, activities everyone was envolved in, and of course her grandchildren. She loved you all so much. May she rest in peace now. ❤️

Dave, Stephanie, Deanna and Crystal – we are so sorry for the loss of Darlene.

I recall many fond memories of her and you all, growing up. It was often times at summer family gatherings— and she would bring the best fruit salads. Playing cards, board games, lawn games, crafts, and just enjoying one another’s company. I always remember how pretty Darlene’s long dark hair was – always clipped back so elegantly. (and functionally!)

When I volunteered at GBRHC – in the geriatric ward; I got to see a lot more of Darlene. Those were two lovely summers, getting to know the patients and participating in recreation. I appreciated the chance to get to know her a bit more at that time!

Later on, many times at the Harrison Park Cafe, where we would gather and catch up over brunch. Darlene was always brimming with pride over her family and her love was genuine and impactful to all those she held dear.

Aunt Darlene, you will be very missed; and your kindness, sharp wit and laughter will live on in your children and grandchildren.

With love – Violet Cassidy-Maroke, Amandeep & Aiden Maroke

I first met Darlene when she transferred from the Owen Sound Site to the Meaford Hospital. I got to know her family through frequent updates on what her children were up to with their lives and later her grandchildren. She thought the world of Dave, Crystal, Stephanie, Deanna and all her grandchildren and all those close to her, giving so much of herself to ensure they were surrounded by love and support. She and I would occasionally bump into each other grocery shopping and I would get an update on her health and her family. I was very saddened to read of her passing. I know Darlene will be missed by everyone whose lives she has touched. Please accept my deepest condolences, Kym Peachey

Darlene and I first met in college 34 years ago. We were pursuing our passion to become Nurses. We ended up working for the same organization for over 30 plus years. Compassion and empathy was ever-present as Darlene nursed her patients. We would spend many hours on the phone outside of work, she loved telling me about all of her children’s accomplishments. She was one proud mother. Stories were shared about Dave’s farming, plumbing and City Council duties to which Darlene thought Dave worked perhaps a bit too hard. Darlene often expressed the love she had for her husband Dave. We shared many laughs, sorrows, shop talk and concerns about our families. Darlene was definitely a caretaker, she gave a hundred and ten percent to her family, friends and Nursing career. Her work ethic and devotion to her husband and family will surely be missed. I will cherish our times we had knowing our paths with cross again.
    Sincerest Condolences to the family.
