Murray, Elizabeth 'Betty'
November 24, 1925 – July 7, 2026
It is with sadness we share the passing of our Mother, Elizabeth Murray, at the age of 100+ years on July 7, 2026.
She will be remembered with love by Daughter Carolyn Leonetti, her husband Ernie and Daughter Karen Anderson and her husband Jim.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband John, who passed 30 years ago, and is still missed by family, her two brothers, and sister.
Elizabeth was born in England in 1925 and lived her early years in England through the war, while there she worked as a midwife in the nursing homes. She then met her husband John and got married.
In 1955 they decided to immigrate to Canada with the offer of a better life for the family. They started their new lives along with Carolyn in Toronto. Elizabeth worked for the T. Eaton Company for most of her active career. Then moved onto Kinney Canada working in the mail room.
When her husband passed away, she decided that she would move to Thornbury to be closer to family. She loved the town and lived here until her death. While in Thornbury, she joined St. Georges Anglican Church and was very active in the Women’s axillary. She loved working in the kitchen especially at the annual Fish Fry. She also volunteered for the BVO for a number of years and was an active member in Beaver Valley Probus. Betty loved being busy.
Last year she was fortunate to hit the celebratory age of 100 and with a birthday party that was attended by family and friends.
Up until the age of 98 she was still living in her home and driving her car and working at the church. In the last year and half of her life she has been at Errinrung LTC, it was her second home and enjoyed the activities including telling the staff how to bake bread…
A special thank-you goes out to all the staff at Errinrung who our mother loved and for the extra special care they gave in the final few weeks.
Our mom’s laughter, generosity and love for her family & animals will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Cremation has taken place and ashes will be scattered after a service conducted at St. George’s Anglican Church on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 11 o’clock a.m. with a reception to follow.

Thank-you for sharing your mom. Have many happy memories of cooking and learning from Betty. So many laughs and good times we had together volunteering at the church. We also loved going out for dinner with the ladies especially for her favourite fish and chips.

Sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. I will miss the visits we had when I brought in my dogs. I know Betty did not enjoy the drool so much, but she was a good sport about it. She was such a kind and lovely lady.

Carolyn and Karen, I was sad to read of Elizabeth’s death. We had many enjoy able discussion over the rear with coffee. Her door was alway open with a lovely smile.
I wasn’t able to visit as often as would have liked to do to a severe car accident I was unable to.
I hope you will carry on her tradition of making sausage rolls.
