Lynch, Florence Louise

Florence Lynch of Meaford passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre on Friday, August 18, 2023 at the age of 94.

Born in Meaford on December 26, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Hazel (nee Doherty) Laycock.

Florence was predeceased by her beloved husband Gerald Francis ‘Gary’ Lynch in 1995.

She was the much-loved mother of Carol Ormsby (Ken), Sue Lambe (Dave), Holly Perks (Ron), and was predeceased by her cherished sons Terry and Todd Lynch.  She will be remembered fondly by Nancy Davison.

Florence was the very proud Grandma and Great Grandma of Mike Ormsby (Tracy Hemeon) and their children Jacob Hemeon (Taylor Bumstead), Ashley Ardiel (Liam) and Pyper Ormsby; Jodi Ormsby and her daughter Gracie Ormsby; Blake Lambe (Steph) and their children Tessa, Gwen and Ethan Lambe, Cailey Lambe and her son Hunter MacDonald; Jennifer Perks (Matthew Curtis) and their children Calvin, Jack and Martha Curtis; Nathan Perks (Ashley) and their children Finley and Tennison Perks; Rob Lynch, Sarah Lynch (Curtis Gibbons), and will be fondly remembered by Susan Hahn and Allison Chaisson.

She was predeceased by her siblings; Russ Laycock, Marjorie Deer and Roy Laycock, and will be remembered by her sister-in-law Donna and by many nieces, nephews and their families.

Family meant the world to Florence.  She experienced some very challenging times in her lifetime but always made her way through them, finding strength in her close connections with family and friends.  She worked very hard at Amerock for many years and always had time and energy to care for her family.  She enjoyed knitting, sewing, bowling and volunteering at the Meaford Midas Mart, the Busy Bees at the Meaford United Church, and anywhere else she could lend a hand.  Florence loved to travel both on land and by plane.  She has enjoyed many trips with her family and has covered much of the globe over the years. She will be remembered for her great sense of humour and the twinkle in her eye. In more recent years Florence looked forward to her Friday date with her girls. Their time together often included some errands, a hairdo and her favourite part, lunch out with a window seat and time to catch up with everyone.  Often, they would bump into other family members and friends, this made Florence very happy. She was a wonderful friend to many and always took the time to talk and listen because she truly cared about how others were doing.  Florence will be missed dearly by her special friend Betty Smith and at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre where she was very comfortable and it quickly became her ‘home’ when she moved from her home on Cook Street, where she and her family had lived for more than 50 years. Florence’s family will never forget the care and compassion they were shown during her time at the nursing home.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Meaford United Church on Friday, September 1st, 2023 at 11 o’clock, with visiting the hour prior to service.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Nursing Home Auxiliary (Cheques Only), Meaford United Church (Cheques Only) or the Meaford Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.   www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

Dear Carol, Sue, Holly and families
Your bond with your Mom, Florence, was always evident, as was her bond with her family.
Florence enjoyed being a part of the church family, also, and the church family enjoyed her as well.
She always made a point of coming and saying hello to me, whether at church or just “out and about”.
There will be a big void in your life, though, I am sure it brings you some solace she will be reunited with your Dad and brothers.
Please know, our thoughts and prayers are with you grieving the loss of your beloved Mom.

Carol, Sue, Holly and families: Sincere sympathy on the passing of your Mom. How well I remember the days in the mid 60s when I would be at your house lots and your Mom would always include me for meals and family fun – I envied how great it was to have siblings to tease and annoy. Florence was the glue that held everyone together. Her resilience is to be admired. Think about all the good memories to help you at this difficult time.

I met your mom at Curves & we had many laughs when she would use that quiet voice of her’s to comment on some of our movements. She always had a smile for you when she saw you, it didn’t matter how she was feeling but how you were doing, kindness was something I admired about her. God will treat her with kindness also!!
