Murray, Frances Jeanne 'Fran'

Frances Murray passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at the age of 81.

Born in Owen Sound on October 6, 1943, she was a daughter of the late George and Audrey (nee McCallum) Morrison.

Frances was predeceased by her beloved husband Wayne Bruce Murray on June 17, 1992, her daughter Mary Lisa on February 20, 2004, and her brother Ted on June 7, 2014.

She is survived by her step-daughter Marcia (Keith Coleridge).

Frances will be missed by her brother Dennis Morrison (Lynn), sister Sandra Tymcik (Steve), and sister Doris Robinson (Ken).

She will be remembered fondly by her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families.

Frances enjoyed reading and music.  She sang in the church choir and was very active member at St. George’s Anglican Church in Clarksburg.  She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge in Thornbury for many years. Both Frances and Wayne were proud volunteers with St. John’s Ambulance.

Frances worked in the nursing field and at Amerock, but found her passion for sewing working at the Handy Shop in Clarksburg. She owned her own business “A Stitch in Time” until she semi-retired.    Frances loved to sew, knit and make quilts. Anything that Frances did, she did well.  She was a very talented woman and loved to help others.  She will certainly be missed but will never be forgotten.

A funeral service celebrating Frances’s life will be conducted at St. George’s Anglican Church in Clarksburg on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 11 o’clock with a reception following. A private service of committal and interment will take place at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.

I did not get to know Frances until her later in life days. She was a joy to be around. Frances was friends with my mother in law Linda and we had many outings together, wings at the Red Door was one of her favourites. We went to Owen Sound Attack hockey games and even trips to Hanover Raceway. Frances will be remembered fondly. Rest in Peace Frances.

I have lost my LIFE long friend Frances who I have known forever. We were born a few days apart in the Owen Sound General & Marine Hospital and that is where our Mothers meet and formed a lasting friendship. Our lives became entangled as the Morrison/Thompson families grew with each of our siblings being very close in age, my older brother did not have a mutual “sibling” but it didn’t matter. Along with my parents and sibling we spent many many holidays, birthdays etc. at the Morrison Farm south of Ravenna on the Blue Mountains playing, adventuring and having a wonderful time. Frances & I went to Bala, On to her uncle and aunts place to start our first summer jobs. When Frances decided to join the Anglican Church my Mother Irma Thompson stood as her God Mother. We lost each other after High School as we each chased our dreams but our Mothers kept us informed about happenings. It has been difficult to put so many memories and thoughts down jn print as there are so many. We want to send our deepest Sympathy and Prayers to Sandra, Dennis and Doris and their families at this difficult time, we will stay in touch.
Rest and Peace my Dear Friend. Kay (Thompson) & Noel Blais

My condolences to Fran’s family. She was such a friendly and talented woman. My daughter wore many of her beautifully made dresses and I was often complimented on them. We’ve held on to a few cherished pieces as family heirlooms. May she rest in peace.
