Hutchinson, George Frederick 'Fred'

Fred Hutchinson passed away peacefully at the Meaford Hospital with family by his side on Friday, September 1st, 2023 in his 87th year.

Born in Euphrasia Township on September 30, 1936, he was a son of the late Tressa Jane (nee Lee) and Wesley Clifford Hutchinson.

Fred will be missed by his beloved wife of more than 61 years, Lillian (nee Holroyd) Hutchinson.

He was the kind and patient father of David Hutchinson (Donna-Lynn) and Joan Rideout. Fred was the wonderful grandpa of Anthony, Danieca, Graham, Dwayne, Scott, Sarah and Neil, and great grandpa of Dameon, Jager, Brock, Annabella, Haley and Lily.

He was the dear brother of Herb Hutchinson (Darlene), and was predeceased by his siblings John Hutchinson (late Rita), Mabel (late John Kaminsky), Mary Jane (late Tom Merrifield), Lorraine Metcalf, Luella (late Art Bastell), Jim Hutchinson (late Inez), Don Hutchinson, and Nelson Hutchinson.  Fred will be remembered fondly by his sisters-in-law Marlene and Joan, and by his many nieces, nephews and their families.

Fred was a very hardworking and handy man of few words.  He was a welder by trade and worked many years at the Collingwood Shipyards and Teledyne / B.T.I. in Thornbury.  Fred was extremely proud of his family and his roots.  He really enjoyed camping, and even when they would get away on a holiday, he was happiest if he could keep busy cutting up brush or helping out with a little job here and there.  He will be missed but never forgotten.

Fred’s family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 4 until 6 p.m.

    Lillian and Family
Sorry to hear Fred has passed. I know we talked when he was in the hospital 2hen dad was.
It was always great talking with Fred and Lillian. Dad talked about Fred taking down a tree and brush and carting it away.
Mom would have tea with Lil.
Pictures and memories, may fade but never go away.

Our sincere sympathies to our sister in law Lillian and all her children on the passing of Fred. Always a quiet rather laid back guy–with a great laugh and a willing hand to help out family when needed. Lots of good memories of Christmas at the Holroyd’s–he usually was the one to carve the turkey while Lil made the christmas pudding with Mom Zillah’s recipe ! Rest in Peace Fred.-you will be missed. To Aunt Lil and family,
Deepest sympathy to all. Uncle Fred was the best. Always had a smile on his face and always there to help out anybody. Many of times shocked mom by being at the front door to visit her. You guys made her feel very special. LOVE YOU BOTH. you will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

Fred, my brother-in-law for over 50 years, was a wonderful person. As many have noted, he always enjoyed being busy and willing to give anyone in need a helping hand. My fondest memories are from the years he hung out with me in the kitchen on family Christmas Day. He was always ready to lift out the turkey, stir sauces, or drain potatoes or veggies, all these foods would be in pots too heavy for me to lift! We had many a laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with Lillian, Joan and David and their families.

Fred was such a nice man. We bought his beige truck back in ’96 or ’97 and he would always ask how the truck was.

    To Aunt Lil and family,
I’m so sorry to hear of Uncle Fred’s passing. He was such a lovely man with a great laugh and always with a smile. It’s funny how you can always recall the voice of some people – when I think of him, I can hear him saying hello and there is always that smile and laugh. He did make the “Holroyd Christmas” special and I have fond memories of all the aunts and uncles from that time but Uncle Fred was always in the middle of it all helping carve the inevitably enormous turkey! We are incredibly fortunate to have had such a close family as we grew up and to have those really warm memories. Much love to you all, he will be missed! xoxo
