von Borzyskowski, Gisela Christa

September 4, 1936 - January 23, 2025

The family of Harry and Katherine von Borzyskowski are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Gisela Christa von Borzyskowski in her 89th year, on January 23, 2025 at the Collingwood Care Centre (formerly Collingwood Nursing Home).

Predeceased by her beloved husband Hans on October 29, 2019.

She was the loving mother of Harry von Borzyskowski and mother-in-law to Katherine, proud grandmother ‘Oma’ to Harrison (Ashley) and Katrina. She was the older sister to Ingrid and aunt to Tanja.

Born in a small town in Eastern Germany, as a young woman after the war, she headed to western Germany before the erection of the Berlin wall and after a period there, she eventually made her way to Canada, where she finally settled, married and started to raise a family.

She loved to work with children, and this would define her working years in Canada during the 1960’s and 70’s. First with small physically and mentally disabled children and then with preschoolers, while residing in Brampton.

She will be remembered for her work ethic, her kindness, as well as her excellent European cooking and baking, including a legendary potato salad, cabbage rolls, black forest cake, torte’s, cookies and cream puffs.

Her retirement years with her husband included the enjoyment of travelling, gardening and the occasional sewing and knitting.

A service celebrating Gisela’s life will take place on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 1 o’clock in the Galleries at the Meaford Hall with a reception following.  A private family graveside service will take place at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation or the Collingwood Care Centre – Resident’s Fund would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.   www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing your mom, but I’m sure she was a special person because she raised an amazing human being: you. Wishing you peace and comfort during this unimaginable time.”

My sincere condolences. Harrison always spoke so fondly of his Oma. He also seems to take great pride in his heritage. On behalf of myself and my Dad we send our heartfelt prayers . May God provide you comfort and peace during this difficult time.
