Ireland, Gladys Vera

The family of Gladys Vera Ireland (nee Caine) sadly announce her passing on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the age of 97.

Predeceased by her loving husband John of 66 years, and her daughters Sally and Donna.  Gladys was also the loving and caring mother of Steven, Jim, and Shelley.  She will be sadly missed by her 9 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and extended family.

Gladys loved art and was a guide at the McMichael Canadian Art Gallery in Kleinburg for many years.  Her homes were decorated with her own works as well as reproductions of the group of seven.

Both John and Gladys loved to travel.  They made many trips, some lasting for months to the USA, Great Britain, Mexico, and South America.  During their marriage, they lived in several locations across Canada, including Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, and most of their married life in Kleinburg and Meaford.

Gladys loved the outdoors, and her family camping trips were an annual highlight.  She also loved the water and boats.  Her early married years, while John was serving in the RCAF, were spent living on a houseboat in Bella Bella, BC near the base.

Faith was a very important part of Gladys’ life.  She was a very active member of the United Church in Kleinburg and the Olivet Baptist Church in Meaford.  Her bibles contain many notes on love, giving, family and kindness in all it’s forms.  She was a truly good person.

A memorial service will take place at the Olivet Baptist Church in Meaford in the fall at a date yet to be determined.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Olivet Baptist Church would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
