Gekill, Harold George

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, dad, Papa and Great Papa on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Brightshores Owen Sound Hospital.

He will be missed by his wife Jane (nee Geddis), his daughter Jennifer Gekill-Pendleton (Rob), and especially missed by his cherished grandchildren; Brad Pendleton (Ashleigh), Brenden Gekill-Pendleton (Jayde) and Brielle Gekill-Pendleton (Dillon), Harold had the honour of becoming a Great Papa to Isla Gekill-Pendleton, daughter of Brenden & Jayde.

Harold was predeceased by his father Hartley Gekill and his mother Margaret Ireton, as well as his niece Lori Gekill.  He is survived by his brother Vern (Janet) Gekill and his niece Jackie.

Harold will be remembered fondly by many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, he truly enjoyed visits made by Jackie Dwyer (Gekill), Jeremy Dwyer, Abi & Jackson Dwyer.  He is remembered by his nieces and nephews, along with special family friend Sylvia Siitam-Ciarallo and Peter.

Harold was born in Collingwood on June 8, 1943. He farmed from a young age and later on took over the family farm.  Harold worked locally in his younger years until he joined Collingwood Township as the ‘Garbage Man’ and later operated the landfill site with the ‘Queen of the Dump’, Barb Sheridan.  He thoroughly enjoyed his work.  Harold loved his family and especially loved being a Papa.  He spent years teaching and loving his grandchildren.

His neighbours were not only his friends; he considered them family.  The 10th Line Boys always helped each other out.

We would like to thank Dr. Brandon Kingston, Dr. Kozak and NP Angela as well as the nurses and PSWs for his recent care.  Special thanks to the Owen Sound Gardens staff for their love & kindness throughout Harold’s stay.

A graveside service will take place Friday June 12, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery. A Celebration of Harold’s Life will be held at the Clarksburg Legion Branch 281, Marsh Street, Clarksburg from 2 until 4 p.m.

Dear Jane, Jennifer & Rob and family, please accept my condolences for your loss. I have many, many good memories of conversations with Harold over the years. He used to tell me how many gallons of furnace oil he and my dad pumped in the cold of the winter to keep everyone’s furnaces running. Always a positive outlook and pleasant disposition.

    Sincerely,

    Jeff Elford & Family.

I’m very sorry to hear of the passing of Harold. My uncle, Calvin and “Gek” were not only neighbours, but they were the best of friends.( A little rum may have passed between them on numerous occasions I’ve been told.) It will be difficult to tell Calvin of the passing, and your loss.
May he rest in peace now.

Really sorry for your loss, Jen, Jane and family. Gek was a helluva guy. So much fun with him on the garbage truck and at your kitchen table. Memories I remember with fondness.

    Rest well, my friend.
