Wright, Iris 'Ruth'

Ruth Wright passed away peacefully at Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound, on Sunday, November 26, 2023 in her 89th year.

Born in Clarksburg, Ontario on November 30, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ethel (nee Garvey) Milne.

Predeceased by elder sister Loreen Craig and her son Dennis McGuinness.

Loving Mother of Paula (Sam) McGuinness of Shallow Lake and Bruce McGuinness of Meaford. Loving Grandma of Bruce, Janessa and Angela (Jason) Reid, Gavin and Darin McGuinness and Calli McGuinness. Beloved Great-Grandma ‘GG’ to Ayla and Emma Soles.

She was the dear sister of Jessie Hopps of Stayner.

Ruth will be remembered as a warm and caring person. With an open heart and welcoming demeanor, her door was always open to all. Many still refer to her as ‘Mommy’. She enjoyed baking, knitting and scrabble, and was eager to join any clubs or groups as she enjoyed the company of others. Ruth liked bus trips to anywhere, especially jumping on the bus to Rama with a local group of people.

Ruth’s family express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Chapman House Hospice for the compassionate care she and her family received in her final days.

In keeping with Ruths’ wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at the Meaford Hall in the Galleries on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 1 until 4 p.m.

We will miss our sweet, friendly neighbour of many decades. Ruth was always quick to make us laugh and we had many interesting conversations about her life growing up in the area. Her quick wit and amazing memory made our chats long and enjoyable. We will certainly miss her. Our hearts go out to Paula, Bruce and her entire family. Our hearts and prayers go out to you

Ruth will be missed, I have known Ruth most of our lives. When I would return to Meaford for a visit, I always enjoyed a visit with her. We were friends on Facebook and often made comments to each other. I remember her fondly!

To Paula, Bruce, Cali And everyone in Ruth’s family, My deepest condolences on your great loss. Mummy-Do, as we kids affectionately call her, was a huge part of my life growing up in our beloved town of Meaford. I’ll never forget her bright, joyful, welcoming nature… Her fierce intelligence.. and laughing along with her razor sharp wit and natural sense of humor. Definitely one of a kind. If you were one of the lucky ones who became part of the family, You felt special, like you belonged, And you didn’t take it lightly. You’d do anything for her. I remember having deep conversations about life in general, the world around us, And I believe I learned more about my family history from Ruth than from anyone. She was so connected to the fabric and history of Meaford and beyond. We all looked forward to her home baked lasagna Friday nights, and the smell of her home baked chocolate chip cookies. Thinking back when I lived there before college, I always wondered How you put up with all that noise…us rowdy teenagers, constantly tuning our guitars, trying to learn how to play, twanging away, and howling like Alley cats, ‘singing’. But you were so kind, So calm, and graceful. We felt respected, and that respect was mutual. These past years I always look forward to visiting, camping out back of the beautiful butter house, reminiscing, barbecuing, laughing, talking and learning more about Meaford history and beyond. We’ll always cherish your company, and your hospitality, And those memories.
