Gray, James Richard 'Jim'

James Richard ‘Jim’ Gray passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at the age of 77.

He was the beloved husband of Sharon and proud and loving father of Sandi.

Jim was born in Toronto and following his education spent 25 years in sales in the automotive aftermarket, travelling across Canada, living in Ontario, Alberta and the beautiful Okanagan Valley, B.C.. Returning to Meaford in the mid 80’s, Jim and Sharon embarked on careers in Real Estate, opening offices in Meaford and Thornbury known as Royal LePage Locations North.  His draw to Meaford was his grandfather, S. A. Gray, who had been Mayor in the early 1920’s and operated a millinery store.

Jim will be remembered for his quick wit, wicked sense of humour, and he loved spending time with his old friends and meeting new. He very much enjoyed time spent in Florida with family and friends along with fishing and golfing.

A special thanks to the many healthcare providers who cared for Jim with great compassion. We are so grateful to you all.

Jim Grey was a gentleman and astute businessman. He enjoyed his friends and always had an interesting point of view. His ability to make others smile will be remembered. He kept in touch during his prolonged illness with e-mail messages that contained funny and often touching topics. Jim loved golf and animals. His recent messages to friends included the words: “With friends I respect and never forget”. Rest in peace Jim, you will not be forgotten,

I met Jim through my fishing guide service over 30 years ago. Ive often wondered why Jim hired me so many times, as he never listened to any of my suggestions when it came to lure selections. For example; one time Jim pulled out a top water lure from the large Plano tackle box he insisted on bringing and would ask for my opinion if he should try it. I replied “Jim, we are fishing for lake trout, that is a bass lure”. He’d say “Perfect, I knew you would say that!” and proceed to tie it on his line.
Jim quickly became my friend and we’ve always kept in touch. I am honoured to know him and will miss our conversations.
My sincere condolences to Sharon, Sandi, family and many of Jim’s friends.

Jim will always have a special place in my memories of Meaford. As a kid I loved to go fishing, but I always went by myself or other kids. Jim was the first adult to take me fishing. When I was 12 years old I told him when he was visiting my parents that I always wanted to fish for trout (I was usually a pond angler), and without hesitation he said “Oh I will take you.” And he did! We went out and fished some cold stream near a county road and I had a trout on the line in no time. I have caught a few hundred trout since then, but that one will always be special. What a great guy.
