Grimes, Janet Ann

Early morning on Thursday, September 16th 2021, Janet Ann Grimes passed away by her daughter’s side at the age of 85. A proud resident of Meaford, Ontario, Janet was a beloved mother, grandmother, and dear friend.

Born in London, England on November 29th, 1935, to Bessie and Leonard Lyon, Janet immigrated to Canada in 1957, to wed her then-fiance, Royd Grimes. A devout reader, Janet loved to craft, knit, play cards, and spend time with family. Janet was also an avid traveller, and lived for her next adventure.

Janet is survived by her devoted daughter Sarah; loving grandchildren Jessica, Holly, Thomas and Danielle; and great-granddaughter Daejannai. She leaves behind her dear friend Ann Saunders, beloved Maple Meadows community, and many cherished friends and relatives.

Janet will be remembered for her humour, character, thoughtfulness, fierce independence and unyielding love for family and friends. Her spark for life will be missed profoundly.

The family would like to graciously acknowledge the nurses and physicians of Meaford General Hospital and the Royal Victoria Regional Health Center in Barrie for their kind and attentive care in Janet’s final weeks.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the funeral service will be limited to family and close friends. Janet is to be interred alongside husband, Royd, and son, Lawrence at the Meaford Lakeview Cemetery.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.   www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

    To Sarah and family
We loved Janet, she was such a breath of fresh air and fun bringing lightness into our lives and the lives of the people she knew. Our memories go back 50 years to the life long friendship that started among the Forest Court neighbours, and those memories are treasured.
Janet will be sadly missed by us and many others so fortunate to have had her in our lives.
    Love to all the family

    Sarah and Family,
I was so sorry to learn that the world has lost such an amazing woman. Your parents, (Sally and Roy to the family) welcomed me into the family when I married Bill. We shared many many good times and lots of laughter.
    Thinking of you,
    Love,

Sally was a living legend and though I only met her in her later years, she made a real impression on me and my family. Sally wasn’t a “cup half-full” person she was “cup runneth over” person. She loved life and always made us smile, laugh and feel grateful for family, friends and life in general. We will miss her dearly.

Such wonderful memories of Aunt Sal…stopping for a swim at their place in Caledon as kids. Loving how she would bring out my mom’s accent on every visit. As adults getting to enjoy her amazing sense of humour and belly laughs. My husband and I as newly weds got to spend a month in Lake Okeechobee with Uncle Roy and Aunt Sal and were welcomed in with loving arms. I will cherish all the memories. Sending my love and condolences to you Sarah and your family ❤️❤️

I’ve grown up with Sally’s influence and laughter in our home and now our children and grandchildren have known and shared the same pleasures and energy. Her laugh was infectious and her ability to put things in perspective pretty quickly was hilarious and often hit the mark. Our paths criss crossed over the 65 years that I’ve known her and Roy and for that we are extremely grateful. Rest dear Sally. You will be missed. Xoxo

63 years ago my husband Gerry and I met Sally and Roy and just thinking of them brings a smile to my face. I have so many happy memories of times spent together – Christmases with them at the Allison’s, Thanksgivings at the cottage in VanKoughnet and the many parties attended back in these early days in Canada. Sadly, my only regret is that because of my husband’s illness we were physically unable to continue this friendship except for the occasional e-mail but the memories will remain in my heart forever. God Speed Sally and condolences to you and the family Sarah, your Mum was a very special lady who brought joy and happiness to all who knew her.

I am so sorry Sarah to hear about moms passing. I have such warm memories of her and your family.
Knowing her my entire life made me think of her more as family than a neighbour or friend. Her contagious laugh and love of life will truly be missed.

Sally and Roy were a large part of our family for over sixty years. We can’t remember life in Canada without Sally around. The gatherings, the parties and the farm. We shared her grief when Roy died. It was tough then and again when Lawrence left too. Thank goodness Sally had Sarah by her side and her cockney sense humour to help her through. Our family appreciated just knowing her so well and I will miss her. Love Doreen
