Godfrey, John Brock Secundus
With great sadness we announce John’s peaceful passing in his sleep of heart failure on April 7, 2022 at his home in Meaford at the age of 70.

Born in the Meaford Cottage Hospital on September 26, 1951, he was a son of the late Brock and Betty (nee Bosley) Godfrey.
John was the much loved older brother of Jane Aiello (Alex) and Martin Godfrey, and was predeceased by his sister Ann. He was the proud uncle of his niece Tammy, nephew Mitch and 2 great nieces and their families.
Painting and art were John’s life and his home was his studio the last few years. As a young man, he travelled the world, painted and had showings at galleries in downtown Toronto and the McMichael gallery in Kleinburg. In lieu of a photo of John for his obituary, we have included a copy of one of his paintings that was on an invitation to a showing he had at Galerie Dresdnere on Hazelton Avenue in Toronto.
John was a very compassionate, caring, generous guy who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a dreamer while still being a realist.
Many thanks to his friend Karen who made the call for a wellness check when friends were unable to contact John.
Cremation has taken place and because John was a very private person there will be no public service. A private family graveside interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted. www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

John was such an interesting person: initially, one would not have suspected the extent of his artistic talent. I had the privilege of viewing some of his paintings: delightful! He was a private man but was always willing to chat. He was ever so helpful as a landlord. He will be missed…

John was a kind and caring landlord to us at the Cat’s Meow. It was always enjoyable to have a chat with him and he was quick to help when we needed something. We were very grateful for his support during Covid closures. We will miss him tremendously!

John certainly was a very considerate and helpful person. He would help anyone, he was such a considerate man, all who volunteered at the Cat’s Meow would certainly agree.
A very unassuming person, John had talent and was very modest about it but his artwork and awards tell the tale.
We will all miss you John. Thank you for all you’ve done

My Condolences go out to his family and all who knew him. I remember him as a private, kind, generous, great listener and a conversationalist when you got him when he wasn’t so busy. R.I.P. John Brock Secundus Godfrey.

I would like to send my Condolences to John’s Family and all who knew him. I didn’t know him very long, as I only lived in the area 4 years, I had the privilege to have met him through a local citizen. From what I knew of him, he was a caring, helping, kind, generous man, a great listener and an excellent conversationalist when he had time and not so busy. I have done a couple of favours for him because he didn’t have a computer, he wasn’t computer savvy and Old School/Old Fashion. R.I.P. John Brock Secundus Godfrey

My deepest sympathy to John’s family.I spent many happy times with John, laughing and discussing art.We were both artists.I am so saddened to hear of his passing. John was a brilliant man and a great artist.A wonderfully unique interesting man , with a great sense of humour.John worked harder than any artist I have known. He was always dreaming of and working towards an ingenious period, where his body of work would touch the world.
Many Blessings John
