Hogg, John 'Nelson'
With great sadness we said goodbye to a husband, father, brother and uncle, John ‘Nelson’ Hogg, on Thursday, May 19, 2022 with his family by his side.

Nelson was born on April 30th, 1945 on a 100-acre farm on the 4th Line in Gibraltar, above Collingwood; he was a son of the late Sanford and Romelda (nee Sholtz) Hogg.
Growing up Dad learned all the skills to become the farmer he became. He was hard working, always fixing machinery, caring for the well being of all the cows/calves and cutting numerous amounts of wood to keep the house warm in the winter.
Dad wasn’t just a farmer, he held many other jobs over his life – Weston Bread in Toronto, and Electrician Assistant, Osler Bluff Ski Hill, Braeburn Farms and Beaver Lumber in Collingwood.
He made many friends wherever he went. When he truly knew you the teasing began….it was his way of getting a rise out of you in a fun way. (He got a kick out of how people reacted and if you played along it was even better).
Dad loved being outdoors. He had a connection to nature and later in life this led him, mom and Virginia to hitch up the trailer and travel to different locations ~ a well deserved break from farming all those years!
When life was finished on the farm, Dad, Mom and Virginia packed up and moved up north to Elliott Lake. He instantly made friends and offered up his “Mr. Fix-It” skills to help his neighbours with ongoing projects for exchange of great conversations about life. After living up north for a while, Dad came back to Gibraltar to find a house on the 6th Line and then off to their new home in Meaford.
Nelson is survived by his loving wife, Joyce (nee Kelly) Hogg of 58 years. He was the proud father of Teresa (Doug) O’Krafka of Cambridge and Virginia Hogg of Meaford. Nelson was the dear brother of Arlo (Guyrene) Hogg of Collingwood.
Thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Meaford Hospital. All of you are greatly appreciated for your kindness and support.
There will be no funeral or visitation, just a small gathering of family and friends at the Westmount Cemetery in Collingwood.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to Events for Life, either directly or by cheque with the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted. www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

Monday, June 20, 2022
Joyce and Family – We’re so sorry to hear about Nelson. This was one of Mom’s favorite and I hope it gives some comfort… Miss Me, But Let Me Go.
When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in gloom-filled rooms,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little–but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low;
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me–but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take,
And each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the Master’s plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart,
Go to the friends we know,
And busy your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me – but let me go.
