Seagram, John David

Born in Toronto on January 3, 1936, John was educated at Trinity College School in Port Hope, Trinity College at the University of Toronto, and the University of Western Ontario, where he earned his MBA. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation and served his entire career at one independent firm, retiring as Chair of Martin, Lucas and Seagram. He also served as Chair of the CFA Society of Toronto.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, John played hockey in his youth and remained a devoted fan throughout his life. He proudly travelled to Moscow as part of the Canadian contingent during the historic 1972 Summit Series and witnessed Canada’s memorable Game 7 victory. He also maintained a keen interest in thoroughbred racing and took pride in his family’s long-standing involvement in the sport.
John’s deepest connection was to Georgian Bay. After discovering the area as a Camp Hurontario counsellor, he spent decades contributing to the communities and landscapes he loved. He served as President of the Sans Souci Copperhead Association, as a Ward Councillor for the Township of the Archipelago, and played an important role in conservation initiatives, including the Georgian Bay Biosphere project. An early member and Past President of Georgian Peaks Ski Club, he was a widely travelled, graceful, and enthusiastic skier.
Known for his wry, sweet, and steady nature, and strong sense of duty, John met the challenges of progressive hearing loss and blindness with remarkable equanimity. He was a quiet leader, a devoted father, a loyal brother and a very good friend. His memory will be cherished.
The family warmly invites friends, neighbours, colleagues, and all who knew John to a Celebration of Life at 12 p.m. on Sunday July 12th, 2026, at Georgian Peaks Main Lodge, 104 Wensley Drive, Clarksburg, ON, N0H 1J0
