Kacer, Josip 'Joe'

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Josip “Joe” Kacer on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the age of 95.

With his late wife Ana (1935-1995), Joe moved to Thornbury in the late 1980s. He was a hands-on fixer, an expert winemaker, a detailed storyteller, and a historian. Joe was that knowledgeable resource you wanted around.

He will be missed by his daughter, Jadranka (Allen), granddaughter, Julie, and great-grandsons, Sage and Sawyer.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his long-time companion Marija “Meri,” her son and his family (Damir, Sandra, and Maks), and her daughter, Mirjana.

He created wonderful memories for his close friends and neighbours in the Thornbury area, both for those who are here and for those who have already passed.

Joe, you had a long and full life. Your mind was sharp until the end, which came on suddenly and quickly. We are grateful that you were a part of our lives and you will be missed.

Family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Friday, September 27th from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m., when a small service will be conducted, followed by a service of committal and interment at Lakeview Cemetery.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.   www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

Our sincere condolences to you, Meri, and your family. We have had the privilege of being neighbours of Joe’s for the past 24 years. Never a dull moment, crates of grapes arriving for the annual wine making, traditional bbq on open coals, smoke house season, the list is endless. Joe was part of the “fabric” of the Riverside Crescent community. He will be missed

Sorry you have left us all Joe. You were such a wonderful part of the Riverside community and surrounding area. Will miss you and your schnapps, and the yearly hug and kiss I planted on your cheek each birthday. Rest peacefully.
