de Werth, Joy Ann

It is with heavy hearts that our family sadly announces Joy’s passing at home in Thornbury on Friday June 14th, 2024, with family at her side at a time and place of her choosing.

She will be deeply missed by Anthony ‘Tony’, her husband of 55 years and children Tracy (Don), Jennifer, and Timothy (Carmen) and grandchildren Nathan, Laura, Alexandra and Madelynn.  She will be missed by sister Raechel Robertson (Trevor) and will be remembered fondly by her nieces and nephews.

Joy attended school in Toronto (Jessie Ketchum High School) and over the ensuing several years worked for various companies in the Finance industry on Bay Street, Toronto, many of those years with the late A.D.G. (Tony) Reid as his Personal Assistant. She then ran her own company, Make-a-Date Calendars, for 6 years before retiring to raise her family. Following husband Tony’s retirement she moved to De Grassi Cove on Lake Simcoe where she spent summers and wintered in Stuart Florida at Mariner Sands Country Club where she was very active on multiple Member Committees. More recently she was an enthusiastic and involved member of Lora Bay Golf Club in Thornbury, Ontario.

The family wish to thank the staff of RVH, and a special thank you to Dr Jessica Singh who’s wonderful care for the last six years enabled Joy to have an enjoyable quality of life. Thanks also to Dr Tim Remillard in Thornbury, Ontario for his care in his role as Joy’s family doctor.

A private cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Joy’s Life will be held at Lora Bay Golf Club on Thursday July 18th, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

No flowers please, but in lieu please consider a donation to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre Foundation at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario or to the Mariner Sands Foundation in Stuart, Florida.  Donations may be made directly or through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.   www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

Dear De Werth family- I had the pleasure of knowing Joy over the last few years and delighted in our sessions together. She told me she absolutely loved Thai Yoga Massage, and felt it really supported her in her healing.

I feel very honoured to have been part of her life, even on a small scale for her healing. She was an incredibly strong willed woman and was inspiring to me

I send you all love and healing light as you feel the feels. ❤️‍

I got to know Joy at bridge games in Meaford. She loved playing the game and had such a great attitude whether she was winning or losing. Joy truly was an inspiration to me in many ways.
My sincere sympathies to her family. You must have many special memories which will be of comfort at this difficult time.

I met Joy when we were 12 yrs. young. So many memories but 1 stands out. We were babysitting on the island and playing The Platters when at 3am the phone rang and the young man who lived downstairs asked us to please change the record after listening to it 56 times. We obliged. Joy has always been close to my heart and will remain so. Deepest condolences to the entire deWerth family. My heart goes out to you.

Dear Tony, Tracey, Jennifer and Tim
I remember so well the first time we all met….Boca Raton Florida some 40 plus years ago. Our 5 year old sons were playing in the parking lot (yikes) and Joy and Tony were in the condo above us. Joy leaned over and asked if that was our son playing with Timmy. Yes, was the answer. Joy’s next line was , “then come on up for a drink!
And so began a long adventurous friendship with various travels together as families.
Joy, I miss your “joix de vivre” , your fun loving spirit, your kindness and your beautiful smile.
My thoughts are with you all at this sad time.
    Love, Cynthia xoxo

It’s sad to loose a bright light, because Joys’ smile shone for everyone, she was always up for a challenge, both in business and in life.
Our paths have crossed so many times, from 60’s until death. She always loved adventures and had many.
Joy and Tony were always a perfect pairing of mutual respect.
Her nickname “Joyous” could not be more true! She loved her family and her friends!
