Hogg, Joyce Sarah Brenda Berniece

With sadness and heavy hearts, we say goodbye to Joyce Sarah Brenda Berniece Hogg (nee Kelly), who passed away in Meaford on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the age of 82.

Born in Collingwood, Ontario on July 11, 1944, Joyce was the youngest daughter of Arnold and Alice Kelly.

She was predeceased by her best friend and husband, John Nelson Hogg.

Joyce was the loving and caring mother of Teresa (Doug) O’Krafka of Cambridge and Virginia Hogg of Meaford.

Dear sister to Guyrene (Arlo) Hogg of Collingwood, who will miss their chats on the phone. She was predeceased by her sisters, Pat (late brother-in-law Leonard Thompson) and Gwen Ford; and her two brothers, Don (late sister-in-law Betty) Kelly and Doug Kelly. She will also be fondly remembered by all of her nieces and nephews.

Joyce will be missed and cherished by her childhood friends, Sandy Conn, Freda Knicley and Sharon Ashton.

She made many friends in her community of Meaford, all of whom she spoke greatly of each and every day. They shared stories, laughter, and Mary Maxim patterns.

Joyce grew up in Collingwood on Rodney Street. One day, she was invited to a baseball game in Gibraltar by Nelson Hogg, he was soon to be love of her life. They married soon after on August 29, 1964 and moved into a small stone house across from the family farm on the 4th line in Gibraltar. Eventually she became a farmer, milking cows and working the fields alongside Nelson. Joyce also learned how to preserve pickles, relish, and fruit which were enjoyed over the winter months. She always said: “I grew up in the city but I’m a country girl.”

Joyce was a kind-hearted person who loved to joke around and possessed a special talent to knit and crochet almost anything by just looking at a picture (reading a pattern just wasn’t her thing). She created her vision through wool.

Her favourite thing to do was to watch Coronation Street, she looked forward to this weekly.

Joyce’s family would like to extend special thanks to all of those who got her to and from her appointments and up to get groceries. Linda, Marie, Helen, Sheila and Jim (a.k.a. Hank), and Cody who helped with computer business and many other things. And their deepest words of gratitude go out to everyone involved during Joyce’s last few moments.

“Happy farming, preserving, knitting, crocheting, and dancing with Dad. Virginia and I will miss you and always cherish the memories you gave us.”

A private graveside service will be conducted at Westmount Cemetery in Collingwood.

I can’t put into words how heart broken I am; I have so many good memories of time spent with her over the years. It felt like “home” every time together. Was more like a sister than a friend. Teresa and Virginia….I am so sorry for your loss. She has earned her golden wings and now your angel watching over you. She will be deeply missed by all who knew here. A rare diamond to all who knew her. My deepest condolences
