McDonald, June Elaine

Born in Sunnidale Township on June 24, 1933, a daughter of the late David and Christine (nee Carruthers) Culham, June passed away peacefully in Thornbury on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the age of 87.

She loved caring for others at home, in the community and at church. She became a Registered Nurse in 1955, working at numerous hospitals and Errinrung Nursing Home.  She became a farmer’s wife in 1956 and worked alongside Alex on their farm in Heathcote until 1989. She enjoyed playing the piano and accordion, which resulted in many jam sessions.  June was kind, quiet, patient and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed baking, and her favourite part of a meal was definitely dessert!

June was predeceased by her beloved husband and companion of more than 64 years on October 23, 2020, Alex McDonald of Thornbury.

She was the much loved and kind hearted mother to Brad McDonald and his wife Lee-Ann Luciani of Collingwood, Bryan McDonald and his wife Pauline of Grey Highlands, Gwen McDonald and her partner David Campbell of Meaford, and Warren McDonald also of Meaford.

She will be missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren; David and his wife Courtney McDonald of Midland and their children Henley, Olivia and Avery; Matthew McDonald and his partner Sara Sammons of Collingwood and their children Hannah, Jack, Harper and Aisley;  Jennifer and her husband Keith Murray of Meaford;  Andrew McDonald and his wife Rebecca also of Meaford and their children Kaitlyn, Emily and Jacob;  Grace and Morgan Campbell both of Meaford;  Lori and her husband Michael Rose of Toronto and Dana Caswell and her husband Matt Johnson also of Toronto.

June is survived by her brother Sheldon and his wife Florance Culham of Huntsville, her sister –in-law Helen Dales (late Alan) of Thornbury, and brother-in-law David ‘Mac’ McDonald and his wife Joan of Owen Sound. She was predeceased by sisters-in-law Yvonne Wilson (late James) of Wasaga Beach and Irene (late Lloyd) Knox of Duncan and by a brother-in-law Murray (late Armol) McDonald of Owen Sound. June will be remembered fondly by her many nieces and nephews and their families.

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions and regulations concerning gatherings at this time, a private family visitation will take place at the Ferguson Funeral Home followed by a private graveside funeral service, officiated by Reverend Peggy Kipfer, at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.

To Brad, Bryan, Gwen, Warren and families, we are truly sorry for your loss. I will always remember June as a quiet, gentle woman who loved her family and friends. She had a great talent for the piano and made the best white fudge on the planet! I have several of her pickling recipes that get a work out every year. She will be greatly missed by many
