Knighton, Leslie Jean 'Les'

Leslie passed away peacefully at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the age of 76.

Born in Vancouver, BC, she was a daughter of the late Desmond and Marjory (nee McLeod) Shorthouse.

Leslie will be missed by her son Christopher Wrigley, his father Paul Wrigley, and by her many friends and extended family.  She has touched so many lives in her lifetime and was truly blessed.

Les has travelled the world and had so much love for Morocco.  She had a wild and carefree spirit and loved to share stories about her travels.  Les was a ‘real-life hippie’ and encouraged others to take good care of themselves.

After decades of supporting and caring for others as a PSW, her body began to fail her.  She moved to the Meaford Long Term Care Centre and was quite happy to spend time with so many wonderful caregivers and residents. Les loved flowers and always had the most beautiful gardens and houseplants.  Sadly, she was unable to take them with her.  We encourage you to remember and honour Les by planting spring bulbs with wildflowers in your garden.  She would love this!  “May you rest peacefully in paradise Leslie.”

A celebration of Leslie’s life will be announced in the near future.

I will remember your beautiful smile Leslie, always finding the positives in life. Your support and faith in the Meaford Community Gardens helped me so much to keep following the dream. It was always fun and inspiring to have you there, sharing your vast knowledge and love of watching things grow. Even when your health made it more difficult to be active in the Victoria Village garden, you still supported us, storing our garden tools in your back yard, popsicles for the Village Kids Garden Club in your freezer. We couldn’t have done it without you Leslie. Thank you for everything, I will remember you with all my love, Mary
