Eldergill, Margaret Helen

Margaret Helen Eldergill, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, at the age of 85.

Born on April 7, 1939, in Southend-on-Sea, England, Margaret was the beloved daughter of Douglas and Catherine White and sister to David, Reg and Liz.

Margaret’s journey took her from the shores of England to the classrooms of academia, where she graduated from the University of Exeter with an honours degree in Mathematics. Her passion for education led her to a teaching career in both England and Switzerland. At the age of 25, she embraced a new adventure by emigrating to Canada, where she would make a lasting impact in her adopted home.

In 2000, Margaret retired to Thornbury, Ontario, a place she embraced with open arms. Her life was a testament to her vibrant spirit and boundless enthusiasm. Margaret was deeply involved in her community and church, where she was an avid member of the St. George’s Anglican Church choir and the Sweet Adelines. Her love of music was matched only by her devotion to community service, which included volunteering at the local library.

Margaret’s passion for the outdoors was evident in her membership with the Bruce Trail Hiking Club, and she remained active in various racquet sports, from badminton to pickleball. Her zest for life was only surpassed by her love for her family, which was the cornerstone of her world.

Margaret is survived by her sister Liz, her children Ian (Carri-Lynne), Peter (Liz), and Susan (Jeff), and her nephews and nieces Rebbie, Stan, David and Catherine. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Annika, Hayden, Quinn, Anara, JT, and Savannah, who will carry forward the warmth and joy she brought into their lives. She is also fondly remembered by her extended family and many friends.

Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her legacy of love, service, and joy will be cherished forever.

A memorial service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held on Friday September 20th at 3:00pm 2024, at St. George’s Anglican Church, 166 Russell St. East, Clarksburg. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering a remarkable woman whose kindness, energy, and love will be dearly missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Marg at the library. She was such a a wonderful volunteer and so full of light. I was taken back by how spry and active she was, still playing pickleball last year! She was so sweet, gentle, and a calming presence. I will miss seeing her at the library each week. My sincerest condolences to her family. This is such an incredible loss for you all and I am so sorry.

Marg was a beloved staple of the BMP library for the years that I worked there. I appreciated the care and attention she took in her work. She had a great sense of humour as well. I always joked that people would save the messages she would leave on their answering machine – such a lovely and lyrical voice. Sending love to all ❤️

My sincerest condolences to all of Marg’s loved ones, I will miss her very much, getting to know Marg when I was new to the choir and church was so easy, such a lovely and inviting human being with a great sense of humour and a beautiful singing voice, who has now stepped into her heavenly home God prepared for her. Thank you Lord for the life Marg had on this earth and the opportunity I had in getting to know such a wonderful lady.
    Rest in peace my friend.

For a lady with such a calm demeanor, Marg was a fierce competitor on the pickleball court. We shared many stories on and off the court. She will be missed by all who knew her. My condolences to her family.

I will always remember Auntie Margs for kindness and relaxed, not easily ‘ruffled’ personality. For sending Xmas cards to me and phoning every so often to see how I’m doing! I also really enjoyed her company in all the family trips we spent together.
Lots of love , keeping you in my heart always, Rebbie

Marg and I spent two weeks travelling together with our Probus group in 2007. We were a little nervous about this trip to South Africa, Namibia, and up the west side to Zambia. It involved safaris, river trips with the hippos, and a two day stay in a camp involved listening to the elephants feed at night just outside our tent. A heli trip up the Zambi River was also amazing!
Marg and I were scared most of the time but realized that this experience was the thrill of a lifetime. Whenever I saw Marg her over the years, we had a chuckle about our trip in the wilds!
    And how brave we were!

Our sincere condolences Sue, to you and your Family, on the loss of your wonderful Mother. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet her on several occasions. She was a kind loving person and she always made me feel welcome in her home. We had some great laughs when I dropped by and I enjoyed a fantastic cup of tea with her. She will be fondly remembered by all. Marg still puts a smile on my face when I think of the snow shoveling on her balcony!
