Knott, Margaret Mary Edythe

Margaret Mary Edythe Knott (née Johnston), affectionately known as Marg, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in her 87th year.

Marg was born July 18, 1939, in Mindemoya on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. She was the daughter of the late Mina (née Hubbert) and Karl Johnston.

Marg was the beloved wife and devoted partner of Mervyn Knott for nearly 69 years, sharing a lifetime of love, hard work, and family togetherness.

She will be deeply missed by her children Randy (Kim), Robin, Steven, and Tracy, as well as her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Eleanor and many cousins.

Marg was a lifelong lover of books and information. Her love of reading was well known in the family, and Merv often teased her with a slogan he had once seen: “I read books. I know things.” For ten years, Marg and Merv travelled across Ontario and into Quebec operating a mobile bookstore, bringing books to communities along the way. For a time, they also owned and operated a bookstore in Meaford.

Marg was also a dedicated school bus driver for more than 30 years. She had a deep love of music and enjoyed playing the piano and singing. Over the years she shared her musical talents as a piano teacher and as a church organist and pianist.

Marg will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her lifelong curiosity, and the many ways she shared her faith, music, and gifts with others.Marg’s Christian faith was an important part of her life and a guiding strength throughout the years. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now welcomed into the arms of Jesus.

The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.

Just read about your wife’s passing, Mervyn. You and your family have our deepest sympathy. Did not know that you were in the Meaford area and had a book store there. It has been along time since we were in school together at M.D.H.S.
