Tatham, Mary Catriona
March 26th 1953 – November 2nd 2024
Mary sadly passed away unexpectedly at home with her loyal dog Willow, by her side. She is survived by her sister Margaret (Mike) living in the London UK. She was predeceased by her mother Catherine (McIntosh) and father George Tatham.

Mary was born and raised in Toronto. She spent time in Scotland where she developed a deep abiding love for her ancestral homeland. While in Scotland she attended St. Andrew School for Girls.
Mary’s first career was in nursing. She later studied law at Osgoode Hall Law School developing a successful practice specializing in Immigration and Refugee cases in Toronto.
Mary was passionate about hiking, the outdoors and dogs. In 2011 she climbed to Mount Everest Base Camp as part of a fundraiser for mental health. She was a friend of the Bruce Trail. She adopted numerous older dogs from shelters in order that they could spend their last years in a home filled with love and comfort.
Mary moved from Toronto to Meaford in 2015 after she fell in love with the beautiful scenic and friendly community. She was a loyal friend to many with a genuine curiosity and generosity of heart. An extremely intelligent woman with a wicked sense of humor, she loved people, loved to learn, to listen, giving her full attention to whomever she met. She made everyone feel heard.
Mary, may your light shine bright in our memories and in our hearts. You are missed.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted. www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

Arlene and I had the pleasure of knowing Mary for many years, as we have been friends of her sister Margaret since university in the 1960’s.
Mary was such a vital force, with her wide ranging interests, strong views and great loyalty to friends and family. We shall always remember her with great affection.

i didn’t love you – i love you still. in the present tense. in the here and now. in this breath and the next. you are not gone from my heart nor will you ever be.
just because this earth no longer holds your body, doesn’t mean that our souls are not entwined.
we are mingling every day.
joined at the horizon of this world and the next.
you weren’t – you are. you didn’t – you do. you can never be erased.

I learned about the Canadian cold by walking along the lakes, in winter, with Mary and the dogs. A favorite pastime . A loving friend, much missed.

I was a childhood friend of Mary’s and even though I hadn’t seen her in many years, her warmth and funloving personality still remain with me. I remember her uproarious laugh and the many adventures we had in the ravine at the end of the street. She was a bright light who will be sorely missed.

“When I came to Canada, I was 26 years old, and my mom was the same age as Mary. She was our immigration lawyer and was very kind. We didn’t know much about the Canadian system, coming from a third-world country, and we didn’t realize we needed an appointment to see our lawyer. My mom used to drop by without an appointment, and Mary was kind enough to meet her and listen to her concerns. She won our immigration case 27 years ago, and her name has always stayed in our hearts and minds since she helped us so much. Today, I was searching for her name to see if she is still practicing, but I came across her obituary. I became so sad, and memories of the old days came flooding back—her kind and beautiful face is still in my mind. God bless her.”
