Breadner, Nancy Anne

Nancy Anne Breadner of Rocklyn passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family on July 1, 2020 at the age of 80.

Nancy was born in Southampton to Alex and Isabel Wilson.  As a child Nancy moved with her family to various towns in Ontario until she met and married Mac Breadner, settling in Rocklyn where she raised her family and lived for over 60 years.   Nancy had a thriving hair salon but still managed to be a pillar of the community where she was involved in many organizations including the Women’s Institute, Temple Hill United Church, the Friends of the Rocklyn Arena, and the Horticultural society.  Her specialty was catering to support fund raising and her pies were known for miles around.   She also loved gardening and created an oasis in her back yard which she loved to share with others.   Friends and family will remember Nancy for her strength, compassion and witty humour.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her children Debbie Nihls (Scott Lockman) of Wolfe Island, Wayne Breadner (Valerie) of Temple Hill and Judy Colley (Mark) of Keswick.  She will also be remembered and cherished by her grandchildren Travis Nihls, Taylor Nihls (Michelle Bialy), Claire Clarke (Rob), Hiliary Breadner (Travis Murack), James Breadner (Amber Wilson), Jacob Colley and great-grand children Mac and Mason. Nancy was predeceased by her husband MacKay. Nancy is also survived by her brother Dave Wilson (Mary), sister Joyce MacMillan, and sister-in-laws Catherine Wilson, Bernice Logan and Donna Jonsson.  She was predeceased by her sister Jessie Gristey (Frederick) and brother Harry Wilson.  Sister-in-law of Don MacMillan, Robert Logan, Doug and May Breadner, Robert Jonnson, Viola and Glenn Ormsby.  Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Nancy’s life by participating in a memorial vehicle procession on Sunday July 5th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. behind the Rocklyn arena and proceeding past the back of Nancy’s home where family will be there to greet and acknowledge your sympathy from a distance.  A private service for family will be held at a later date.  If so desired and as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Temple Hill Cemetery fund (Cheques Only Please) or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON  N4L 1B9  www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

My sympathy goes out to Debbie, Wayne and Val, Judy and Mark on the loss of your mom and mother-in-law. The organizations to which she was a huge part of will never be the same without her. She was the kindest lady I knew and if asked if she could help the answer was always “yes”. May she RIP.

I last saw your grandma at the 2019 fall fair and she was proud of y’all; telling me of Claire’s babies & Hilary & James’ exploits. She was one proud grandma! I’m gonna miss knowing she’s keeping everything in order here in Rocklyn. We’re sorry for your loss & God bless.

Debbie, Wayne and Judy, I know you have thousands of memories of your wonderful mother. I have been gone from the community for years and when I think of growing up in the Rocklyn/Harkaway area, Nancy is one of my fondness memories. For years she cut all of our families hair. Dad was always late in picking us up but that was ok because Nancy would take pity on us and always had a treat of some kind while we waited.
In later years, when I was up visiting my family, I could easily see how vital Nancy was to family, friends and her community. She will be missed by many.
Always with a ready smile and kind words, a gentle lovely lady!
My thoughts are with you and your families.

Dear Debbie, Wayne and Judy and your families. I’m posting this note on behalf of my mother Lois Sewell and my sisters Debbie and Barb. During our regular family zoom meeting Sunday night we took time to share our memories of getting our hair cut by your mom for so many years. And her kindness and willingness to help our with so many things – remember her from Temple Hill church and everything in Rocklyn. Though we’ve been gone from the area for many years, we remember her fondly and she always had a ready smile. Our deepest sympathy to all of you and may your precious memories support you.
