As neighbours across the street from Nath we were the recipients of many a kind gesture from Nath. From plants to BBQ chicken legs! Many a time we would be watching for her blinds to be up in the morning so another day could begin without worry about Nath who could make it upstairs to bed for ever so long. Amazing! Nath did not like to take on catching the odd bat that made it inside at night. We tackled that together though. Most amazing was Nath’s capability driving. Did you know that she drove her car in her 101st year and was easily able to back her car into her driveway? Many of us have had problems backing up all our driving careers. Much to Derek’s consternation, Nath averaged a win average of 94 per cent playing the Free Cell game on her computer! And that feat was accomplished while simultaneously screening 5 games on screen! Most certainly, Nath led a life of enviable, vibrant longevity. Good for Nath!!

Nanny was a loving grandmother to me and a kind, caring great nana to my son Sawyer. We visited her every summer at her home in Meaford. We loved her stories, and taking her for lunch or to the grocery store so she could ‘get out’. She was sharp as a tack and had a great memory and sense of humour. Nanny always looked beautiful and well turned out. She had an inner radiance.

At her 90th birthday celebration, held at her childhood home in Kimberley, I was amazed to see so many people who’d traveled a long way to be there, and whose lives she’d touched. I remember thinking, perhaps naively, that 90 years of age is quite an accomplishment. Clearly, nanny had lots to show me!

When we visited this past summer, I was in awe of this woman, still living in her own home and smart and funny as ever at 103. I know she knew she was loved, and I’m grateful for her friends that checked on her regularly. And the wonderful care aide, Linda, who helped make it possible for her to remain in the home she loved.

We knew this day was coming, but it doesn’t take away the pain of her loss. She will be missed immeasurably.

We are very sorry for your loss. She was remarkable for all the garden activities she did, and the beautiful results! Everyone remarked on the roses beside the driveway! Her yard was always immaculate and blooming. We enjoyed the visits we had, usually outside. We were always amazed how well she backed her car into her driveway, and wondered if we will be as capable at her age. We will miss our neighbour with the silver white hair and warm smile.

    Sincerely, David and Kathy Sled

She was the most amazing teacher, she taught me in Grades 3 and 4 and had the most effect on me more than any other teacher I had. When we would bump into each other through the years she always knew me and asked about my brother Arnie, who she also taught. She was an amazing person and I am so surprised she lived to 104. Bless you all, you’re in my thoughts and prayers. Rita (Ferris) Miller.

Mrs. Gibbons has a profound impact on my life. Her empathy and wisdom helped me as a child to get through some rough time. Although we hadnt seen each other in years I have never forgotten the lessons she taught me way back in grade 3. Sounds like she continued to be a wonderful woman with many years of living. My condolences to those she has left behind.
