Pearson, Norma
We are deeply saddened to say farewell to Norma Pearson, age 87, who died peacefully at the Meaford General Hospital on Friday, October 11, 2019.

Norma was born in Middlesbrough, England, to Jane Anne and Thomas Shepherd. As a girl and young woman, Norma was recognized as a talented concert pianist and as a scrappy field hockey player. She always harboured a lasting and deep affection for the lovely villages and windswept moors of North Yorkshire, drawn back many times throughout her life.
When she was just twelve years old, Norma met her husband, Frank Pearson, whom she married in 1951. Norma and Frank spent 56 years happily married, traveling often, supporting each other in their careers, and sharing a mutual love of the arts, especially landscape painting in the proud British tradition.
Along with their son Gary and daughter Gail, Norma and Frank immigrated to Canada in 1957. In 1962, Norma gave birth to her youngest daughter, Beverly.
After the loss of her husband Frank, Norma joined Beverly and Rudy in moving to Meaford in 2011. Norma was immediately made to feel at home by her wonderful neighbours, especially by Sandi and Earl Wilson and Diane Giroux. She attended many local art classes, and she spent much of her free time feeding her insatiable appetite for reading fiction, always highly anticipating the opening of the Net Shed or the next book by Louise Penny.
Always a pillar of strength, Norma was naturally independent and proudly self-reliant, but she also attracted friends and confidantes of all ages. Struck by her warmth and openness, many found in her a sympathetic ear, a friend who they could always lean on for emotional support, sound advice, and fantastic conversation.
Norma will be missed horribly by Beverly, by her son-in-law Rudy, and by her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial gathering will be held at Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 2 until 4 o’clock. The family would like to express their gratitude to Norma’s visiting nurses and personal support workers from Care Partners.
As your expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Friends of the Meaford Library would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted. www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

Dear Beverly, I have only just heard of Norma’s passing……so many memories of so many years ago when George was a rookie and your dad was a mentor to him and your mom to me as. New police wife…..many the cup of tea….and then their move to the country…our visit to the new home on the sixth line and spotting the farm we would buy. I know she will be missed. Strength for this next chapter of your life. Moms are always supposed to be with us. Joyce

I started watching a show on New Year’s Day about Yorkshire and it made me curious, so I googled Frank Pearson and came across Norma’s Obituary. I am so sorry to hear that she passed, my condolences to her friends and family. She sounded like a remarkable woman. I wish I knew her. I only met her from what I can remember once or twice. I remember her being a painter but little else. The day she passed, I was heading to England for my first time and I thought of them while I was there and wanted to learn more about their lives. So I am truly grateful I found her obituary as it gives me a small glimpse of her life which sounded incredible.
