Holden, Peggy June
Peggy passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, at Grey Bruce Hospice ‘Chapman House’ in Owen Sound on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at the age of 67.
Born in Markdale on September 27, 1958, a daughter of the late Wilbert Russell Weatherall and Frances Helen (nee Carter).
Peggy was the treasured wife of Denver Holden. They were married on March 10, 1978 and began their life together.
She was the amazing mother of Jeremy (Beth Reichert) and Robin (Amy Neilson), and was predeceased by her cherished daughter Becky on February 12, 2026. She was the proud grandmother of Finn, Cooper, Briden and Harlan.
Peggy will be missed but never forgotten by her siblings; Len, Sandra, Susan, and was predeceased by Wayne and Cindy. She will be remembered fondly by her step-mother, Suzanne Sloan and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Weatherall and Holden families.
Peggy and Denver moved to their current home in Thornbury in 1979. As they raised their family, they gradually started spending more and more time each summer in Nestor Falls, until it became a familiar summer home and eventually a permanent residence for both Robin and Becky.
Peggy worked at the Red and White grocery store, the Bakery and ran a home daycare for many years. During the summers in Nestor Falls she also worked as a cook and waitress. When their children were young and active in hockey and figure skating, she was a regular volunteer for the Beaver Valley Athletic Association. As the kids grew up and moved away, she continued to be an active volunteer in the community with the Breakfast Club program at the school and the Beaver Valley Outreach.
Peggy and Denver enjoyed many trips to several Caribbean destinations with her family and close friends. Other visits included Florida and Arizona. Most recently they enjoyed trips to the East Coast, Iceland and an Alaskan cruise.
She liked to stay active and could be found during the winter months curling, downhill skiing or snowshoeing the trails in Slabtown. During the summer she could be found on the water on a paddle board or in a kayak or canoe with Becky, who was not only her daughter, but also her best friend.
Peggy will certainly be missed by her grandchildren, she looked forward to fishing and spending time at the beach with Briden and Harlan, and loved to watch Finn and Cooper at their hockey and lacrosse games.
A special thank you to the Oncology departments in Fort Frances and Owen Sound, for their care and support over the many years. Peggy’s family is extremely grateful to the staff, volunteers and doctors at Grey Bruce Hospice ‘Chapman House’ for the care and compassion shown to both Peggy and her family during such a challenging time.
All are welcome to attend a graveside service at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 3 p.m., followed by a celebration of Peggy’s life at the Beaver Valley Community Centre from 4 until 7 p.m., with tributes shared at 5 o’clock.

We were so sad to get this news. Condolences to Denver, Jeremy and Robin. I first met Peggy at Moms and Tots in the United Church basement almost 40 Years ago and spent many hours in arenas with her over the years. Then had great conversations when we would bump into her on our daily walks while she was coming or going to volunteer at the BVO. I will really miss that. She was one of the good ones with a great laugh.

Dear Denver, We are so heartbroken for you and your family. So many great memories in Nestor Falls. Peggy was so gracious and helpful with getting our flower bed resurrected. She was quite the fisherman, kayaker, canoe paddler, and naturalist. We remember her keeping grandsons busy each summer while you all were at work. She and I shared our love of reading, passing books back and forth each summer. Not many people we know have been as determined and involved in her health care during her cancer treatment. Wishing you all peace and comfort during this sad time.

Peggy was so kind and welcoming to our family. She always greeted us with a smile and a bag of the best smoked trout in Northern Ontario.
