McMullen, Phyllis Marie

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Phyllis McMullen announces her passing on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the age of 83 at Grey Gables Nursing Home in Markdale with her granddaughter Christine by her side.

Born in Collingwood Township on January 20, 1936, Phyllis was a daughter of the late Gordon and Alby (nee Skippen) McRae.

She was predeceased by her husband Doug McMullen on February 4, 2019.

Phyllis was the loving and patient mother of Paul (Barb) and Brent (Bri) and was predeceased by her daughter Heather. She was the understanding grandma of Aaron, Kailie, Christine, Edan, Brooke, and was predeceased by her grandson Anson.  She was the proud great grandmother of Dylan, Maia, Lexi, Carter and Brett.

Phyllis will be missed dearly by her sister Marion Genoe (Bev), and was predeceased by her brother Donald, and by her sisters Dorothy (late Raymond) and Lois. She will be remembered fondly by her sister-in-law Velma and brother-in-law Doug and by her many nieces, nephews and their families.

Family and friends always came before anything else in Phyllis’s life. Her love for others showed in her work with the Red Cross and the many clients she cared for over the years.  She enjoyed working at Talisman Ski Resort in housekeeping and the many stories that came with that job.  Doug and Phyllis’s door was always open, and was the centre of many historic Kimberley parties and family gatherings.  The country music was always playing and the beer was always cold.  Phyllis loved to laugh and that often led to fits of hysterical laughter and many tears of joy.  She loved camping and their many travels to Florida, but most of all she loved the view from their home in Kimberley. ‘When you closed your eyes and soared to the heavens, I heard the faint flutter of your wings as you left. They had been waiting on you to join them in the sun, now the rejoicing and laughter has begun’.  Love, Christine

My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your Mom and Grandma. Phyllis was a lovely lady and I’m glad I had the chance to know her. She was warm and welcoming from the first time I met her and Doug at the infamous Kimberley home. May her memory be a blessing.

Sorry for your loss. Remember all the good times and there were a lot. I remember the good old dances at the community hall in Kimberley. Both Phyllis and Doug had a good time along with every one else.

I just heard today that Phyllis had died. My sympathy goes to the whole family,
We often played together growing up in Heathcote
I am quite aware of the difficulties she had as a child and the sorrow she had in her adult years when so many of her family suffered from Huntington’s disease.
I am glad she is remembered as one who laughed a lot.
