Lougheed, Ray Alvan

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful and painless passing of Ray Lougheed at Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound on Saturday, February 28, 2026 in his 78th year.

Born in Collingwood on May 4, 1948, a son of the late Alvan and Rita (nee Sheridan) Lougheed.

Ray will be missed by the love of his life and wife of 35 years, Donna May Lougheed of Thornbury.

He was the much-loved brother of Marie Turner (late Lorne) of Meaford and Ruth McColl (late Richard) of New Brunswick. He was the dear brother-in-law of Debra Mardorf (Gary) and Cathy Hawrysio Genua (Nick) and Janis Cullen, and was predeceased by his brother-in-law Robert ‘Bobby’ Hawrysio.  Ray will be remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews and their families.

Ray loved his job with the Metro Toronto Police and retired after 25 years of service.  He and Donna moved to Thornbury where he started his own driving service.  This was the perfect job for him, he loved to drive and he met many wonderful clients along the way. He also loved a good game of euchre and would travel to play with different groups.  Ray will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A special thank you to all of the doctors and nurses from the Brightshores Health System in Meaford and Owen Sound for the care and compassion shown to Ray during a challenging time.

As per Ray’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a come and go visitation to celebrate Ray’s life will be held at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 2 until 4 p.m.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford or Owen Sound Brightshores Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.   www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

    Donna and the Lougheed Family
What a wonderful man, loved playing cards with him, and the group in Thornbury. He was a great driver for many of us to the airport, and I loved his chat, when he was out for breakfast or lunch and always reading the paper.
It was a pleasure to know him.
Thinking of you at this time, hold on to the times you shared.

My dearest Ray. It has been a long and beautiful blessing that our paths met over the years. Your voice, ever cheerful and optimistic is a treasured memory for me. A voice that was strong and friendly, yours will perpetually remain that special “Ray of Sunshine” that brightens one’s day. You were my niece Donna’s beloved husband. May your spirit know that we will continue to cherish and comfort her as the days unfold. May your sisters stand in your tender light of having had you as a caring and thoughtful brother that loved his family.
