Mackey, Robert William 'Bob'

It is with heavy hearts and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert William ‘Bob’ Mackey on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Grey Bruce Health Services in Meaford in his 84th year.

Born on the Mackey family farm on the St. Vincent-Collingwood Townline on July 24, 1937, Bob was a son of the late Bill and Gertie (nee Walters) Mackey.

Bob will be missed dearly by his best friend and wife of more than 61 years, Janet (nee Almond) Mackey of Meaford.

He was the proud father of Scott and his wife Jenny Mackey of Chatsworth and Lynn Mackey-Noll and her husband Michael Noll of Sarasota, Florida.  Bob was the fun loving Grandpa of Meaghan, Robert and Adam Mackey and Opa of Jarika and Julia Noll.

He was predeceased by his brother Art Mackey (late Arlene) and will be remembered fondly by his sisters-in-law Rosemary Eagles (late Jack), Laurie Adams (Ken) and was predeceased by his sister-in-law Dianne Elliott (Roy). Bob will be remembered fondly also by his many nieces, nephews and their families.

Bob enjoyed life, family and many friends. He graduated from the University of Toronto and started his career as an Ontario Land Surveyor and later became a Real Estate Broker. He served his community as a St. Vincent Township Councilor, Trustee for the Board of Education, served as a former Board of Director for the Grey Bruce Regional Health Services, was a long standing member of the Maple Leaf Shooting Club, and a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Thornbury.  He was an avid baseball fan and umpired locally for 35 years.  Bob enjoyed yearly trips to Florida to visit Lynn’s family.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date when health restrictions allow and it is safe for family and friends to gather.  A private family service of interment will take place at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.   www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

Looked up to Bob from many angles. Marched a couple of times together playing our drums with the pipe band. My Grandmother Gladys McCluskey and mother Marlene often spoke about Bob and how he was a special part of the community. Rest in peace Robert your kindness will always be remembered by the McCluskey and Johnston family.
As a Brother of the fraternal lodge, G.W.E. rest in peace my brother.

On behalf of the members of the Southern Georgian Bay Association of REALTORS®, we would like to express our sincere regrets at this very difficult time. Bob contributed greatly to our Association – he joined in 1984 and volunteered on many committees between 1993 and 2013. He also sat on the Board of Directors from 1993 to 1996, was President in 1995, and retired in January of this year. Bob will truly be missed.

So sorry to hear about Bob. Wish we could be together for hugs. Cherish the memories. One of our fond memories is getting early morning phone calls to come for breakfast and then a cross country ski. Bob would start the bacon and eggs as soon as we walked in door, we would have breakfast and then off we would go for a ski to wear off the breakfast. Fun times. Our thoughts are with all of you.

Bob was a great guy. He and I spent many evenings and weekends umpiring local Softball, from the little guys right up to Canadian Championships. He especially loved working games with the young ones, they gave us many laughs. He gave a great deal back to minor sports and youth in the area. RIP Bob, ’til we get to call some games again… Mike Styles

    Janet and the entire family,

I am so saddened to hear about Bob. He was the best business partner and friend I could have asked for. Bob had a wealth of knowledge, he was a natural leader, generous and kind to everyone. He had the best stories to tell as we cruised around Meaford in his mustang on our way to work appointments while taking time to show me the row of hills he loved to take his grandkids over. He was so well respected by all those who knew him and everyone seemed to know Bob! Always a straight shooter, I learned so much from Bob, he was a great friend and an amazing person, I will really miss him. My most sincere condolences to the whole family, Bob really was one of a kind.

Janet, we are saddened to learn of Bob’s passing. It was always a delight when we happened to run into either of you at local functions. Bob was particularly sweet to take my mother and me through a house for sale on Ford Drive, that had once been part of Knight’s Kozy Kabins run by her parents in the ’30s. It would not mean a sale for him, but it meant a great deal to my Mom to relive those memories from her youth, and is particularly poignant for me now as Mom left us April 30th. Bob was a kind gentleman, and will be missed by all who knew him. Our hearts go out to you and your family.
