Reay, Ruby Margarett

Ruby passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2024 with family by her side at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre in her 87th year.

Born in Meaford on August 9, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Lynton and Dorothy (nee McNally) Robertson.

Ruby was the loving and patient mother of Heather and Michael Zanussi and Judy and Carl Pastway.  She was the proud Grandma of Cherene, Shalane (Brent), Sherelle (Aaron), Devon (Julia), Jacob, Dillon (Jenna), Kailey (Tom), Corey (Steve), Mitchell; and GG to Eithan, Evan, Reece, Rilee, Claire and Chase.

Ruby is survived by her brother Dale Robertson (Sharron / late Jane), niece Paige and nephew Jason. She was predeceased by her sister Helen (late Jack) Wipperman.

Ruby was a very hard worker and spent her early years working as a Bell Operator. She later became a well-liked and respected PSW at the Meaford Nursing Home, until her retirement when she turned 65. Family and friends meant the world to Ruby.  She always looked forward to her annual trip to B.C in August, trips to Kitchener and quality time spent down at Christie Beach.  She was a loyal and devoted friend, loved chatting on the phone, and was a great listener and confidant. As most would know, one of Ruby’s favourite meals was a good pork dinner, done just right!  Always better when shared with good company and conversation.  Ruby will be fondly remembered by the bread man and will be missed by her family and friends, but will never be forgotten.

Ruby’s life will be celebrated with family and friends at the Meaford Hall on April 27, 2024 from 2 until 4 p.m.

It was always a pleasure spending time laughing around the fire at Heather and Mike’s while Ruby was in BC visiting. She was so full of life and have nothing but love to give in this world. She will be greatly missed, but the love she left behind in her daughters and extended family will be something I will always remember. All my love to her family and friends who are heartbroken by this devastating loss.

So sorry to hear of Ruby’s passing. I so enjoyed working with Ruby as a health care aide at the nursing home- she gave amazing care and was well loved by the residents and staff. It was like no time had passed when I was able to reconnect with Ruby at the nursing home this fall- same quick smile, kind heart.

I have so many memories of the evenings we worked together at Meaford Nursing Home. In the years I have known Ruby it was always evident how much she loved her family and the love she was shown in return spoke volumes. Her sense of humour kept me laughing during many shifts at work and I know she has brightened many people’s lives besides mine. I will miss our phone conversations but whenever I think of her I will always remember her laughter and the sparkle in her eyes. I thank God for the privilege of having known her.

I’ve known Rube (as Daddy used to call her) almost all my life. She had such beautiful shoes and always looked like a city girl. She was a role model for me. I wonder if she knew that. She always smiled and was always happy.
    Rest in peace Ruby.

My condolences to the family I got to know Ruby when I had the bowling lanes. I always said to her if I don’t remember your name I’ll just call you size 8 narrow foot. We had lots of laughs when the ladies would always stay after bowling having coffee or tea sorting out all the problems in the world. Ruby was a great lady.

Heather, Judy and Paul and families, my sincere condolences. Ruby was one of a kind. When I started working at the Nursing Home I was lucky enough to have her as my team mate. She was loved by the residents and staff for her kindness and genuine interest in them and their families. Ruby always had a joke or story to make you laugh and we laughed a lot! She will be missed by so many.
