Garrett, Ruth Ann

March 15, 1940-November 28, 2024

In celebration of Ruth Ann Garrett (nee Greenfield), born March 15, 1940, Ruth Ann of Meaford was in her 84th year, passing on November 28, 2024.

She was the much-loved mother of Gail Smith, mother-in-law of Paul Smith, and grandmother of numerous four-legged children including cats, dogs and horses.

Ruth was the sister of Harley Greenfield and the late Don Greenfield, and will be remembered fondly by their families.

In her early years, Ruth worked for Bell Canada and was a legal secretary.  She was a single mother and always stayed busy working any jobs as needed, including childcare, seamstress, and cleaner to name a few.

Ruth loved animals and had horses, cows, pigs and chickens over the years.  She thoroughly enjoyed her time with the animals, including horseback riding and general animal husbandry.

In her later years, Ruth moved into an apartment, where she enjoyed her cats.  She leaves behind her beloved 17-year-old ‘Patches’ in care of Gail & Paul.

Ruth made some good friends in her building, and will be missed by them, as shown by the numerous expressions of loss and sorrow.

As per Ruth’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.  Cremation has taken place and interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to Grey Bruce Animal Shelter would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.

    Hello.
    Yes, Ms. Garrett.
    A wonderful, thoughtful person.
A neighbor of mine some twenty years. She inspired me to follow in her footsteps, volunteering to do yard work.
    I loved her.
    She shall be missed.

She was a nice, friendly lady that lived in same building. If she was sitting down stairs and I came down would sit and talk. One day she was cold so I gave her a hoodie she really appreciated it. She will be missed
