Pedlar (nee McLean), Sandra Diane 'Sandy'

Sandy Pedlar of Meaford passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound on Friday, January 30, 2026 at the age of 61.

Born in North York on December 11, 1964 to proud parents Diane (nee Thompson) McLean of Annan, and Albert ‘Bert’ McLean who predeceased her on April 20, 2025.

Sandy graduated U of G where she met her devoted husband, Michael James Pedlar. After graduating Lakehead, Sandy became a fun-loving teacher. She spent the majority of her career teaching ‘strings’ at Meaford Community School where she was both admired and respected by the staff and students.

She was the very proud mother of Annette (Caitlin) and Katherine ‘Katie’ (Mitchell).

Sandy and Mike raised their two daughters on their farm in Meaford. Sandy was a supportive and vocal hockey, volleyball, and soccer Mom. She had a love of watching many sports, but a special love of The Raptor games.  Multi-talented, Sandy’s artistic skills were shown in her love of pottery, painting, choir, gardening, cooking/preserving and playing music.

She was also passionate about her relationships both within the community and her family. She will be missed greatly by her younger siblings Carolyn (David) Bendo, and Steven (Teresa) McLean. By her in-laws, Mother-in-law Ann Pedlar (late Charlie), Carolyn Pedlar and John (Jill) Pedlar, nieces and nephews: Rosa, Sadie, Micah (Hailey), Emily (Carson), William and Megan.  Also, by her many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sandy brought much joy, laughter, love and music to this world. She will be profoundly missed!

Family will receive friends for visitation at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 3 until 7 p.m.

A service celebrating Sandy’s life will be conducted at the Meaford United Church on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11 o’clock with a reception following. A private service of committal and interment will take place at a later date at Annan Cemetery.

Mike, Annette, Katie, and Diane, I would like to thank you for being so generous of your time with Sandy and allowing so many of us to visit with Sandy these past few months. I will remember Sandy for her wit, knowledge, creativity, generosity, and her friendship. Sandy always made the “girls” Quebec trips and tea parties memorable. Always laughter and good times when Sandy was present. She will be missed and never forgotten. My deepest condolences to her family.

Mike, Annette, Kate, Diane and family, my hope at this time is that you may find strength and peace together. Sandy was one of a kind and will be so missed. That smile, her laughter, her sense of fun, her creativity, and her willingness to go the extra mile were an inspiration. She touched so many lives. I was fortunate to have been her friend, to have taught with her, and to have shared in many adventures through the years.
Thank you to the family for your willingness to allow us to share this past year with Sandy. My thoughts are with you.

Mrs Pedlar was a wonderful teacher. She truly had a passion for the job and those who had her for a teacher were lucky. She inspired so many to have a passion for music. Meaford has been so lucky to have her to shape the young minds she did. To her family and friends I am so sorry for your loss. She was a wonderful woman and MCS was so lucky to have her as both teacher and conductor of the orchestra there. May the family find some comfort in knowing she left her mark in this world encouraging young minds to find passion in music.

So very sorry for your loss Mike, Annette, Katie & family. She was such an amazing woman. I am endlessly thankful for the hours she devoted to teaching & the music program. I will never forget the first day (in grade 6) walking into the music room at MCS so scared to play an instrument for the first time but her patience and passion for teaching music made all the difference. Sandy truly was so special. Thinking of all of you and sending lots of love.

Mike. Annette, Katie and all Sandy’s family, my deepest condolences in the loss of this wonderful woman. I got to know her through church and Goldenaires and, like everyone else, loved her spirit, her humour, her joy in all she did. I was only one of the lucky recipients of her generosity, finding a jar of delicious homemade soup and maybe some sweet treats in a bag by my door, wondering who left such a gift for me, till one day I caught her in the act. We had a great chat and I had to promise to keep her secret. Sandy will be missed by all but what a legacy she has left in the world of music.

Dear Mike , Annette & Caitlin, Katie & Mitch and Diane,
I am thinking of all of you at this sad time. Sandy was such a wonderful woman: Wife, Mom, Daughter, Sister, Mother in law, and Good Friend. Sandy went through this life with her ever ready smile, her humour, her stamina and fight (especially if she had a cause to fight for at a Staff Meeting!). I can remember her determined speeches if there was a project that she wanted to pursue. She was such a dedicated and caring teacher and students found out quickly that they were in her class to learn and nothing else ! Sandy and I often had chats about the benefits of “thrifting” and one year I happened to be supporting some students in her class on Earth Day and she was talking about recycling. She stood in front of the class and said , “ How do you think I look today ?” There were the usual grunts and murmurs from a grade 6 class as they said OK. Then Sandy said ,” Well everything I have on has been recycled, it’s all from a thrift store except my underwear is new and my Mom knit my socks!” Only Sandy would be brave enough to teach that lesson. Sandy is defined by her bravery and I know she leaves a legacy behind her that will continue on through her family and through her many students and members of this community. We will all have Sandy in our hearts as we remember her music and passion for justice especially for young people. We were all fortunate to have Sandy on this earth for 61 years as she shared herself with so many.
Share her beautiful memories and take good care of each other.
Keeping all of you close in my heart,
    Jennifer

Dear Mike, Annette, Katie, Diane and family. Our hearts may be broken with the passing of Sandy. She is one person who, at the worst of times, had an astonishing ability to make others hearts sing.
Through Church choir/activities, Goldenaires choir and years of friendship, I know Sandy always made the most of life for yourself, but, more so, especially for all of those around her.
Music, of any type, will forever remind me (us) of Sandy and her family, and will keep, at least, my heart singing, due to the pleasure and blessing of so many years of sharing part of Sandy’s adventuresome life, a life taken to soon, but a life well lived. Sandy’s lessons went far beyond the school rooms and for that we can be thankful.

Mike, Annette, Katie and Aunt Diane,
Sandy most always had a smile on her face and if she wasn’t smiling she was making someone laugh. Her patience and kindness with mom shone bright. We are ever so grateful for her help and was such a wonderful example of what family truly is!
    Sending hugs to you all

    Sandy is remembered….
Our daughter Melanie had Sandy as a teacher. Sandy took a special interest in her students which made a lasting impression on Melanie who was struggling in school. She recalls on one occasion that Sandy invited the girls from her class to her house to bake cookies together. Sandy cared and her caring helped Melanie (and likely many other students) through some difficult school days.
Our sincere sympathy to Mike and the girls.

    Mike, Katie, Annette and Family,
I didn’t know Sandy and unfortunately, I didn’t make it to her Celebration of Life. But speaking with Mike at the YMCA over the last year and hearing stories about Sandy, her love of music, her adventures and how her whole family rallied around her, makes me wish I had known her.

I do know she must have been an amazing person to have such a wonderful family to support her through the good and the bad times. My thoughts are with you and I look forward to hearing many more stories and memories!

    Thinking of you all!

    Mike, Annette, Katie, and family,
We’re remembering Sandy’s bright spirit and her beautiful fiddle playing — and the amazing historical outfits she wore while performing at Moreston Pioneer Village! So much joy!
We’re holding you all in our thoughts. ❤️
